For many, Japan is a world unknown, where futuristic buildings and leading-edge design meet bamboo forests, volcanic islands and geisha adorned in intricately handwoven kimonos and oshiroi white powder. The speed at which Tokyo moves is electrifying, on the one hand, a departure from Western sensibilities; on the other, a modernistic, high-tech metropolis that leaves most other cities trailing behind.. #Atlantis is now Caribbean-plate, Cocos-plate, several microplates beneath central America, the city itself is buried on the Yucatan peninsula, beneath millions tonnes limestone, currently referred to as "Chicxulub-crater"... https://lnkd.in/e4n7sf-R "Clad in scuba gear, edging through narrow tunnels, researchers discovered the stone ruins of eleven sacred temples"... ...highly edited, removing any mentions of "pyramids", but these female archaeologists found columns, buildings, roads, in caves, underwater, roads going nowhere... 🌍 𝗖𝗼𝗻𝘀𝗲𝗿𝘃𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗗𝗮𝘁𝗮𝗯𝗮𝘀𝗲 𝗦𝗻𝗮𝗽𝘀𝗵𝗼𝘁 | 𝗧𝗔𝗡𝗚𝗢𝟮 𝗔𝗻𝘁𝗮𝗿𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗰 𝗲𝘅𝗽𝗲𝗱𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀 𝘁𝗼 𝗿𝗲𝘀𝗲𝗮𝗿𝗰𝗵 𝘀𝗵𝗮𝗹𝗹𝗼𝘄 𝗯𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗵𝗶𝗰 𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗺𝘂𝗻𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗲𝘀 🌊The Natural History Museum & Vivarium of Tournai has been supporting the TANGO2 project since 2023. It focuses on collecting data on the organisms living in shallow parts of the fast-warming region of the Southern Ocean: the West Antarctic Peninsula (WAP). 🔬By using a special type of sampling platform, the project team can inspect understudied areas which are usually not accessible to icebreakers. At the end of the last expedition, the team had collected more than 4,000 physical samples! These will now be analysed back in Belgium, at Tournai Vivarium. 🐟 Using the collected samples, the researchers will be able to learn more about the biological and habitat diversity levels of shallow areas of the WAP – this is called the shallow benthic community. Specifically, TANGO2 aims to answer these questions: ❄️ How are shallow benthic communities impacted by differences in glacial regime (the way glaciers melt and move), and how do they respond to these differences? 🌡️ How does climate change and the modification of ice regimes impact various parts of the ocean (atmosphere, water column, seafloor) at various spatial scales? ✨We are curious to know the answers to these important questions! ----------------------- Do you want to learn more about this project? ➡️ Read the EAZA Conservation Database Snapshot on our website https://lnkd.in/d6PiFMD AND Check out these links: www.tango-expeditions.be https://lnkd.in/eRWQYsSW 📸 © Natural History Museum & Vivarium of Tournai Universiteit Gent, BELSPO, Université libre de Bruxelles, F.R.S. - FNRS, Université de Liège, Royal Belgian Institute of Natural Sciences, Université de Bretagne Occidentale #wildlife #conservation #education #research #ZooWork #EAZA #SavingSpeciesTogether #Antarctica #climatechange #glacier

Consultation Projet ARCHE ARCHE - Alliance for Research and Innovation in Cultural Heritage in Europe [EIREST / Equipe interdisciplinaire de recherches sur le tourisme - Université Paris 1 Panthéon-Sorbonne] https://lnkd.in/emt5_U_W * In September 2022, the Alliance for Research on Cultural Heritage in Europe project (ARCHE) #ARCHE_eu was launched to promote a holistic approach to cultural heritage research and innovation. ARCHE will be a spearheading coordination network of researchers, innovators, heritage professionals, institutional bodies, and citizens. The objective of ARCHE is to engage all cultural heritage actors in Member States / Associated Countries in the co-design of research and innovation strategies and roadmaps that lead to research and innovation initiatives requiring multidisciplinary approaches and skills. ARCHE with EIREST's research team, university Paris 1 Panthéon-Sorbonne, as a partner, launches a consultation process on the Vision and Mission to guide the new Strategic Research and Innovation Agenda (SRIA) for cultural heritage. Join us in crafting the #ARCHE_eu Vision & Mission statement🚀 Your valuable feedback ensures that the work of the #HeritageResearchAlliance is as representative as possible! #newsISPC #ARCHE #HorizonEurope Consultation on the Strategic Research and Innovation Agenda for Cultural Heritage The ARCHE project coordination team and the Institute of Heritage Science of the National Research Council of Italy (#CNRISPC) are currently coordinating the consultation for the Strategic Research and Innovation Agenda (SRIA). This consultation marks a crucial step toward defining research priorities for the coming years and has been one of the highlights of the “Towards the ARCHE SRIA” workshop, organised by CNR ISPC and Fondazione CR Firenze. The SRIA will outline key priorities for research in cultural heritage, guiding future European projects and initiatives from 2026 onwards. The agenda will tackle cross-cutting themes, such as diversity, equity, and inclusion, integrated with three priority areas: cultural heritage and society, cultural heritage and environment, and cultural heritage and governance. The consultation will run until 15 November via the EUsurvey platform. Contributions are essential to ensure the SRIA accurately reflects the needs and challenges of the cultural heritage community and beyond. In addition to the survey, stakeholders are encouraged to participate in discussions on the Heritage Research Forum, a platform designed for exchanging detailed views and fostering collaboration. This consultation is a crucial step toward shaping one of the most comprehensive cultural heritage research programmes in recent history. The final SRIA will be published in early 2025. #AstroTourism #NothernCape #Karoo #Carnarvon #Sutherland ✨💫📡☄️🪐🌍 Tourism authorities are on a drive to boost the number of travellers visiting the Northern Cape. They’ve this week launched the Astro-Tourism Strategy in Carnarvon in the Northern Cape. South African Tourism data shows “Domestic tourism in the Northern Cape saw a significant surge in 2023, with the number of trips almost doubling from 785,512 in 2022 to 1,429,263 in 2023. This represents an 82% increase in domestic trips.” “There was a slight decrease in international tourist arrivals from 113,961 in 2022 to 110,283 in 2023, representing a 3.2% drop. This marginal decline in visitor numbers may reflect global economic conditions or a shift in travel patterns, but it does not necessarily indicate a downturn in the tourism sector's performance in the Northern Cape, as other key metrics show growth.” Here’s our eNCA story. https://lnkd.in/dJDtDJCe
Strategy to woo more Northern Cape tourists
