RLP Asia is a pioneer in sustainable, life-centric designs. MK Leung, RLP Asia’s Director of Sustainable Design and Behave’s Principal Behaviourist, was a guest speaker in the “Sustainable Construction Reimagined: Tackling Scope 3 Emissions” session at Hilti Group Hong Kong’s The Future of Construction Forum. MK highlighted RLP Asia’s Science Based Targets initiative Scope 3 emissions reduction efforts, particularly project design measures like structural optimisation, the use of regional materials, automatic refuse collection, waste management and sorting systems, on-site food waste decomposers, and glass crushers. The Future of Construction Forum by Hilti Hong Kong featured a series of panel discussions covering topics such as construction digitalisation, job-site automation, and sustainable construction. 🌍 The journey towards sustainability 🏗️ The ÖGNI - Österreichische Gesellschaft für Nachhaltige Immobilienwirtschaft and the Österreichische Bautechnik Vereinigung recently presented the results of their joint working group "The sustainable construction site - status quo and science fiction". Among the contributors to this pioneering initiative is our colleague @Markus Auinger, a dedicated expert who has significantly enriched this project with his expertise. The aim of the collaboration is to achieve the decarbonisation of the entire construction process by 2050 (in Austria by 2040) and to meet the ecological requirements of the EU Green Deal throughout the entire supply chain. The group has published a comprehensive position paper that represents an important step towards sustainable construction. Highlights include: - Moving away from fossil fuels in construction. - Conserving resources and minimising waste. - Incorporating the principles of the circular economy. - Implementing a unified approach for a balance framework to simplify the measurement of construction process and logistics-related greenhouse gas emissions, which can be allocated to modules A4 and A5 according to EN 15804. The position paper presents innovative processes, techniques and best practice examples to prevent construction sites from becoming ecological or economic burdens. 🌍 Which core skills are expected from construction graduates to contribute to the UN Sustainable Development Goals? Today, Helena Udø Findinge is presenting our paper at the World Sustainable Build Environment Conference 2024. The focus of this paper is to highlight the essential skills construction graduates need to contribute effectively to the SDGs and showcase best practice examples of how construction projects can align with the 2030 Agenda. The insights are derived from a collaborative workshop with the skilled advisory board of the EU project SUSTAINABUILD. The main competencies identified were (in headlines): 🌱 Expert knowledge of construction practices, building materials, and sustainable development 🌱 Skills related to construction practice and climate adaptation 🌱 Competencies in social qualities and strategic processes We are excited to share these findings and contribute to the ongoing efforts towards sustainable development in the construction industry. Yesterday's Sustainability Workshop was a resounding success with insightful discussions bordering on embracing sustainable practices in the construction and property development landscape. Under close collaboration of experts from Edeec, optimal and alternative air conditioning systems, improved ventilation, and diversified environmental solutions have been implemented. These improvements not only enhance air quality but also meet LEED GOLD standards, with a total short-term renovation cost of 𝘂𝗻𝗱𝗲𝗿 𝟯𝟬 𝗺𝗶𝗹𝗹𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗩𝗡𝗗.
