“𝓢𝓾𝓹𝓮𝓻𝓱𝓾𝓶𝓪𝓷𝓼 𝓸𝓯 𝓕𝓲𝓷𝓽𝓮𝓬𝓱” is a movement to celebrate the unsung heroes of the fintech and VC community. Brought to you by Aspire, Fintech Nation and supported by Singapore FinTech Association (SFA), Peak XV Partners and Lightspeed Southeast Asia - these are the investors, mentors, friends and partners that have played an instrumental role in shaping the ventures we all know and love today. Next up, honouring Yinglan Tan, Founding Managing Partner of Insignia Ventures Partners. “Yinglan and I first crossed paths on LinkedIn, where he reached out, intrigued by the ticketing startup that I was building in Singapore. His curiosity and openness immediately struck me. Shortly after, I went over to his office to share my vision. I was building a secondary ticketing platform at the time, but Yinglan encouraged me to think bigger. He saw the potential not just to facilitate ticket resale but to create a primary ticketing system with built-in technology to combat scalping—something that elevated my business to a whole new level. Under Yinglan’s guidance, I transformed my business, moving beyond my original idea to tap into a much larger market. Today, we've just completed our first major event using our enhanced ticketing platform, and we’re in talks with several companies to adopt the system. This wouldn’t have been possible without Yinglan’s mentorship, which was not just tactical, but also visionary.” - Remus Er, Founder & CEO of Row One Asia Have some Superhumans of Fintech that you want to nominate? We have some fantastic news to share with you all: XPANCEO has been named one of The Europas 100 hottest startups for 2024! This award places us among the most promising and innovative companies in Europe and the MENA region. Previously, The Europas has recognized companies like Spotify, Revolut, Bolt and FarFetch with this honor, well before they went on to become household names. This list has been carefully curated for over 15 years by Mike Butcher, Editor-at-large of TechCrunch. When a company sets out to do something truly ambitious, many are skeptical—think of Apple in its early days. But awards like this show that the world is beginning to recognize the true impact of our work. We’re here to prove that smart contact lenses are going to redefine the way we live and interact with the world via AI-powered XR computing. https://lnkd.in/edAM8CaU #TheEuropas100 #XPANCEO

Unicorns Ruled for a Decade. Tech Needs a New Beast. The era of obsessing over lofty valuations needs to end. It’s time to refocus on revenue." - Parmy Olson in Bloomberg At #LondonTechWeek this week, Phoenix Court and Dealroom published new insights about startup fundamentals in Europe and beyond. In the UK alone, 118 startups are bringing in more than $100 million in revenue. 785 do more than $25 million in revenues. Dealroom's mission is to help unleash the potential of startup ecosytems with intelligence. Revenue data is a key element of this. At Dealroom we now cover financial regulatory data on 80% of the European startup ecosystem. Outside Europe, we are also making strides although the financial disclosure is more limited. We believe this is the start of a new era with much more focus on fundamentals. This matters hugely not only for investors, but also for employees and all stakeholders.

The last days really got me thinking about agility, speed and innovation dynamics. This is a message I received from a startup that I thought could be interesting for our accelerator and it sums up my feeling in a way. What happened before: - I talked to a tech park from the Baltics who offer journeys for their startups to internationalize. Clear message: we don't recommend them to internationalize within the EU / to Germany. All to complicated. They have partners in US and Asia - in February we participated in an EU tender (relatively small volume). Last week the public authority wrote us. Not the result, but the question if we can officially confirm to hold up our offer till end of the year, because half a year is not enough to decide - together with a potential partner, we are waiting for the release of a frequently announced tender of a German public procurer. For almost 1,5 years now. - some weeks before we received the message that the planned new building we want to move into will be ready some months later - the third time we got such a message (on the same building) Reasons are different. And complex. And hard to change. But all in all I ask myself the question: When are we waking up? We definitely need to speed up in a global world. Who has other good stories to share?
