Quality optimization and resource savings in the production of seamless steel tubes The outstanding advantage of the stretch-reducing mill (SRM) is its impressive flexibility - it can be converted to different dimensions with virtually no loss of productivity. A typical rolling program comprises thousands of different dimensions. However, especially with small batch sizes, manufacturers can only fully exploit the advantages of this high flexibility if they use a powerful automation system to achieve the highest quality with minimum resource consumption. The atrac® system successfully fulfills these requirements in various rolling mills. Whether measurement technology, drive system, plant type, rolling program or rolling conditions - atrac® offers tailor-made solutions for the individual needs of the plant operator. The integration of self-learning functions, which take both current and historical data into account, guarantees optimum results regardless of the personnel involved. A new self-learning function for equalizing wall thickness deviations over the pipe length complements the atrac® smartControl, which consists of the automatic adjustment of the tube end control and the wall thickness control. This innovation significantly increases the success of automation when using a single online wall thickness measuring system downstream of the stretch-reducing mill. The wall thickness measurement before the stretch-reducing mill is not absolutely necessary, but it is still useful because it enables direct feedforward control of the thickened ends and the wall thicknesses, as well as adjustment of the upstream processes and, if provided, ensures that eccentricity is taken into account. The decision to invest in expensive measuring technology depends heavily on the overall production situation and market conditions. It should be noted that any improvement in tolerances can be translated into cost savings. An increase in tolerance accuracy or yield of several percent is possible by automating the stretch-reducing mill, provided that the automation system is comprehensive and works reliably.

Vinyl sheet piles are made using the extrusion molding method as monolithic profiles from polyvinyl chloride, modified with refining agents e.g. toughness modifiers, UV and thermal stabilizers and mineral filling components). Extrusion is the process of pressing a hot plastic through a matrix that forms the profiles in the right shape. Then the freshly pressed sheet piles are cooled down to keep the shape and parameters. The raw material used to manufacture our vinyl sheet piles is composed of high quality and freshly recycled PVC – after one-time processing. Thanks to the use of other additives and stabilizers in the manufacturing process (the proportions and exact composition being our trade secret), our sheet piles are strong, their look corresponds with exceptional quality and they have high resistance to UV radiation. The UV stabilizers used to extrude vinyl sheet piles inhibit excessive oxidation of the material, which is also of essence in terms of impact on the environment.
