It's an honor to share SAHELI trial results in JAMA Cardiology The FIRST large clinical trial to evaluate the reach and effectiveness of lifestyle counseling among US South Asian adults with cardiovascular risk factors. Bottom line: The 16-week culturally adapted, group lifestyle intervention did not lead to greater reductions in clinical risk factors than monthly health education materials but did lead to modest improvements in self-reported diet and physical activity. What we learned: We have more work ahead of us to optimize CVD prevention for South Asians, but a critical lesson from SAHELI is that trust and partnership with underrepresented communities is central to equitable cardiovascular clinical trials. https://lnkd.in/gj9xta9x Nirav Shah, MD, MPH Emily Anderson Northwestern University - The Feinberg School of Medicine #cardiovascular #clinicaltrial

🎉 Exciting Canadian Research Alert! 🇨🇦🔬 🔍 Key findings: Risk of chromosomal anomalies increases with nuchal translucency measurements. Pregnancies with measurements <2.0mm had the lowest risk. Even measurements <3.5mm showed increased risk, challenging current screening practices. 🔬 This population-based cohort study, led by Canadian researchers, included data from over 400,000 pregnancies in Ontario, providing robust evidence for reevaluating prenatal screening thresholds. 🌟 Implications: Could lead to reexamination of current screening practices. Highlights the importance of high-quality prenatal screening programs. Opens avenues for further research and policy adjustments. Let's celebrate Canadian excellence in medical research! 🎉👏 #CanadianResearch #PrenatalScreening #ChromosomalAnomalies #ScienceInCanada #HealthcareInnovation https://lnkd.in/grYy-s2S

🚀 New Insights on Estimating Kidney Function in Young Adults! 🚀 A recent study published in the Clinical Kidney Journal takes a deep dive into estimating glomerular filtration rates (eGFR) in young adults, challenging the effectiveness of commonly used creatinine-based equations. With data from over 2,000 individuals aged 18-25 from Europe and the USA, the findings reveal that the EKFC and r-LMR equations outperform the CKD-EPI equation in most young adults. This could lead to better diagnostics and treatment for young people dealing with kidney health issues. However, the study also uncovered some nuances, such as individuals with exceptionally high GFR levels. In these cases, the CKD-EPI still holds its ground. This research highlights the importance of context in medical diagnostics and pushes for more precise tools in assessing kidney function for younger populations. Exciting times for nephrology and scientific advancement! 🌟🧬 Read Research 👉🏻 https://lnkd.in/duCg-6w5 #research #pubmed
