[#SteelIndustry | #FutureInside] The development of great solutions can be pursued in many ways. We love to engage young minds in our projects, from the world of University and Research as well, because we think that an external outlook on our solutions can bring much more inspiration than anything else. For this reason, we have decided to sign up for IPSP - Industrial Problem Solving with Physics, the challenge between physics talents promoted by the Physics Department of the University of Trento. Polytec was successfully selected among the participating companies and, for a week, master's and doctoral students, and researchers in the field of physics from different universities, worked hard to find innovative solutions to technological development challenges. The team who worked on our case study won the challenge, an exciting outcome to an exciting journey. The problem proposed by Polytec concerned measuring the temperature of liquid steel in the melting process of electric furnaces; an automated procedure that takes place via an industrial robot that immerses, through a steel lance, a measuring device inside the liquid steel. The objective of the challenge was to study the thermal stresses suffered by the lance, identifying the best material to minimize lance deformation. In the few days available, the group led by Dr. Sebastiano Mariazzi worked on our case study and was able to best interpret the proposed industrial problem and win the challenge. Unveiling the Potential of Crosslinked Carbon Nanotubes at CISR 2024 I'm thrilled to have shared my research on the thermal stability of a novel carbon allotrope at the 4th Conference for Interdisciplinary Student Research (CISR) held at Prairie View A&M University on April 2nd, 2024. The conference provided a fantastic platform for exchanging ideas with fellow researchers and showcasing our groundbreaking findings. Research Highlights: Developed a room-temperature method for direct crosslinking of single-walled carbon nanotubes (SWNTs) in solution. Demonstrated exceptional stability of crosslinked SWNTs under various conditions, paving the way for advanced materials and nanotechnology applications. Contributed to the understanding of carbon allotrope properties and their potential for creating stronger, more durable materials.
