Nature conservation is crucial for sustaining life on Earth. Our planet’s ecosystems provide essential services such as clean air, water, and food, which are vital for our survival. Without preserving these natural resources, the delicate balance of our environment is disrupted, threatening all forms of life, including our own.
Unfortunately, the current state of nature conservation is alarming. According to the World Wildlife Fund, we have lost nearly 60% of the world’s wildlife populations in the last four decades. The Global Forest Watch reports that the world lost 3.75 million hectares of tropical primary rainforests in 2023 alone, which is an area equivalent to the size of Iceland. These figures highlight the urgent need for immediate action to protect our natural heritage.
Deforestation, in particular, poses a severe threat to our ecosystem. It leads to habitat loss, diminishing biodiversity, and contributes to climate change by increasing carbon dioxide levels in the atmosphere. A recent investigation revealed that a major furniture giant has been sourcing wood from European Union’s pristine forests, causing irreversible damage to these vital ecosystems to meet the global demand for furniture.
In response to such challenges, STEER World is pioneering solutions to combat deforestation. By developing and promoting nano-compounded affordable material that can substitute wood for all practical purposes, STEER World aims to reduce the dependence on natural forests.
