The recently released WWF report has highlighted a devastating reality: since 1970, monitored wildlife populations have declined by a staggering 73% in regions including Latin America and Africa. This alarming statistic underscores the critical need to mend our relationship with nature. The business sector plays a crucial role in this endeavor. It’s great to see that some Danish companies are already leading the way, actively putting nature on their agenda. Their commitment to sustainability and biodiversity is not just commendable but essential for our collective future. Let’s take inspiration from these trailblazers and integrate nature-positive practices into our business strategies. Together, we can drive meaningful change and ensure a thriving planet for generations to come. https://lnkd.in/gf7xW-uK

True innovation respects and nurtures the natural world. On this World Nature Conservation Day, we pledge to ensure that progress does not come at the cost of our planet's future. Nature conservation is crucial for sustaining life on Earth. Our planet’s ecosystems provide essential services such as clean air, water, and food, which are vital for our survival. Without preserving these natural resources, the delicate balance of our environment is disrupted, threatening all forms of life, including our own. Unfortunately, the current state of nature conservation is alarming. According to the World Wildlife Fund, we have lost nearly 60% of the world’s wildlife populations in the last four decades. The Global Forest Watch reports that the world lost 3.75 million hectares of tropical primary rainforests in 2023 alone, which is an area equivalent to the size of Iceland. These figures highlight the urgent need for immediate action to protect our natural heritage. Deforestation, in particular, poses a severe threat to our ecosystem. It leads to habitat loss, diminishing biodiversity, and contributes to climate change by increasing carbon dioxide levels in the atmosphere. A recent investigation revealed that a major furniture giant has been sourcing wood from European Union’s pristine forests, causing irreversible damage to these vital ecosystems to meet the global demand for furniture. In response to such challenges, STEER World is pioneering solutions to combat deforestation. By developing and promoting nano-compounded affordable material that can substitute wood for all practical purposes, STEER World aims to reduce the dependence on natural forests. These innovative materials not only help in preserving forests but also promote sustainable living practices. Our mission at STEER World is not just to innovate but to regenerate. By creating sustainable alternatives, we aim to protect our forests and preserve the delicate balance of our ecosystems for future generations On this World Nature Conservation Day, let us unite in our efforts to protect and restore our planet. Support initiatives that promote responsible consumption, and take personal actions to reduce your environmental footprint. Together, we can ensure a sustainable and thriving planet for future generations. Join us in making a difference—nature needs us now more than ever! #HealThyPlanet #HealThyPeople Vishal Mehta, PMP Shiva Subramanian Gayatri Chauhan Nitin Gupta Hari TN Satish Padmanabhan Sachin Oswal Vipul Parekh Naiyya Saggi

Today, in celebration of World Nature Conservation Day, we reinforce the crucial role that cork oak forests play in sustainability. The Rio Frio Estate is an example of the profound connection between cork oak forests and sustainability. It showcases the innovation and deep respect we have for these ecosystems, embodying the true spirit of this day. And that's why we created the Forest Intervention Project - a program designed with the purpose of enhancing our forests and our raw material – cork -, dedicated on deepening the knowledge about the resistance of cork oaks, promoting the sharing of technical knowledge about the activity and enabling the planting of more than one million trees on our properties. Through these initiatives, we increase carbon capture and boost the sustainability of the cork oak forest and its ecosystems. These forests not only provide the raw material for our products but also support biodiversity, combat climate change, and sustain local communities. "A society grows great when old (wo)men plant trees in whose shade they shall never sit." 🌳 Love this quote and it perfectly sums up why we need to dive into landscape restoration big time. The Forbes article "The Trillion-Dollar Promise Of A Landscape Restoration Industry" by Willem Ferwerda unpacks this beautifully. Restoring landscapes? It's a long game and it's a commitment to future generations. The benefits, however, are immense, offering significant returns on investment through revitalized ecosystems and empowered communities. The concept of landscape restoration extends far beyond environmental benefits. It presents a compelling investment opportunity, promising significant returns both economically and socially. By restoring ecosystems, we're not just safeguarding biodiversity; we're fostering sustainable livelihoods and bolstering local economies. This initiative calls for a collective effort. It's about businesses, communities, and individuals coming together to champion a sustainable future. It's an investment in our planet's health, ensuring it remains vibrant and resilient for generations to come. Let's consider how we, as professionals, can contribute to this movement. Whether through supporting sustainable practices in our industries or spreading awareness within our networks, every action counts. https://lnkd.in/dWD4wRFV #landscaperestoration #impactinvesting #landscapefinance

What future do we want? That is the question that the Nature Futures Framework seeks to answer. I have found this tool to be helpful in the organizations that I am part of, as well as in my own engagements, as a way to elaborate the desired state that our collective actions should take us to. I am happy to see my friend Vanik Arakelyan finding ways to integrate the Nature Futures Framework in their context. I look forward to learning from these initiatives!
When I was starting Evergreens, I envisioned creating a space where innovation, collaboration, and a deep commitment to sustainability would drive our actions. Today, I am beyond proud to say that we have taken a major step forward with the successful completion of our Conservation Lab—a significant achievement not just for me personally but for the entire Evergreens team. The Lab provided an extraordinary platform for 20 bright minds from across Armenia to strengthen their capacities in climate and environmental topics, and get exposed to the Nature Futures Framework (NFF). This heuristic framework encourages us to envision positive futures for nature and people, where we reimagine a thriving connection with our biodiversity and ecosystem services and address the plurality of value perspectives on human-nature relationships. We will also take this further by developing a toolkit for CSOs to help them integrate the NFF into their own projects and expand community-engagement in meaningful and impactful ways. I want to thank my incredible team—Mariam Avetisyan, Elen Navasardyan, Shoghik Ghazaryan, and Hasmik Torosyan—for their dedication, passion, and tireless efforts. I would also like to extend my gratitude to HyeJin Kim, whose invaluable support and guidance on the NFF played a pivotal role in shaping our approach and ensuring its success. This accomplishment is not just a milestone for Evergreens; it is a step toward engaging youth and empowering communities for environmental action and fostering sustainable change across Armenia and beyond. I look forward to the local action initiatives that will emerge from this experience, and I am committed to supporting these projects as they unfold.

I subcribe to the SUGi newsletter and the latest edition contains the following: "Green Deserts Landscapes that appear green and lush on the surface but lack biodiversity and ecological health. In cities across the world ‘green spaces’ are characterized by manicured grass lawns and orderly parks, and are often hailed as ‘urban oases'. These landscapes are deceptive. They are what we call green deserts, expanses that, lack biodiversity, ecological value and more often respite from extreme weather patterns. Manicured lawns were originally a symbol of status of the “aristocracy and gentry”. They would deforest larger parts of their land into grass instead of using it to produce food. Green deserts symbolize a uniformity that prioritizes a single species of grass over a rich variety of plant life. However, the approach fails to provide sustenance or habitat for wildlife, undermining the ecosystems they are supposed to support as they require excessive water, fertilizers, and pesticides. These kind of resources, while maintaining the lawns’ pristine appearance, contribute to environmental pollution and water scarcity. The ecological sterility of these spaces can change! What if we incorporate native trees, plants and wildflowers into these spaces? Native species that are well-adapted to local climates, require less water and maintenance and play a crucial role in reviving urban biodiversity creating habitats for humans and biodiversity to flourish." © SUGi 2024 This is EXACTLY the basis of the Stepping Stone Forest programme. We transform areas of manicured lawn into mini-woodlands bursting with native wildlife. I hope to have the opportunity to work with SUGi soon on their first project in Ireland. An exciting prospect.
