The Commission’s 2024-28 Corporate Plan outlines our priorities, targets and measures for success over a four-year horizon, and is closely tied to the commitments articulated in the Commission’s Portfolio Budget Statements. Following on from the Capability Review of the Commission, this Plan articulates our purpose as stewards of the Australian Public Service. In the coming year, we will implement the ‘Public Service Amendment Act 2024’. We are working collaboratively across the Public Service to reinforce all values, including the new value of stewardship, to support a mindset of practical and ethical delivery for Australians and Government by public servants. On 1 July the UN General Assembly will hold a plenary meeting on the “Responsibility to Protect (R2P) and the prevention of genocide, war crimes, ethnic cleansing and crimes against humanity” as part of the formal agenda of its 78th session. Ahead of the debate, the UN Secretary-General released the 16th report on R2P entitled “Responsibility to Protect: The commitment to prevent and protect populations from atrocity crimes." Within the report the Secretary-General issues a stark warning about worrying global trends, including increasing violations and abuses of international law, and articulates challenges that UN member states and the international community have faced in upholding R2P over the past two decades. The Secretary-General asserts, however, that there are still opportunities to shift the current course of events through a more nuanced and strategic approach to prevention and protection by actors across all levels. We've published a summary of the report highlighting its key findings and recommendations ⬇ https://lnkd.in/dMEMHdmJ
