When my son first came home from school in Year 3 talking about Growth Mindset I’d never heard of it, but given how much it was helping him I was hooked from the beginning. Going through some of the learnings they were taking on in their classroom I remember thinking it could be transformative in the workplace, so I read the book. I’ve never looked back. That was eight years ago. I am incredibly grateful to the teacher who introduced him, and by extension me, to the concept. The evidence is in. When people have a growth mindset every outcome lifts. By focusing on effort and mastery rather than results, for example, performance, mental health, and wellbeing all improve. I believe it should be mandatory training in schools and workplaces. I realised during action learning set facilitator training this afternoon that every time we learn, we unlearn things. There are similar skills to one-to-one coaching that I can bring to my facilitator role. And there are big differences, the main one being that as facilitator it's not my role to ask questions, but the second being that I will probably need to interrupt to hold the set. There are a couple of things I want to do with these facilitator skills. The first is use action learning sets in a group coaching programme to help people develop better habits to steer clear of burnout. I’m a bit obsessed with learning. In fact, as a coach and a human, it’s an essential part of the mental element of my resilience framework. I am a course-aholic, a podcast-obsessive and a book obsessive. It keeps me fresh and buzzing. Learning new things gives me energy! But I also try to make sure I: 🌟 Run and do some yoga daily to keep physically fit 🌟 Practice daily meditation to keep spiritually well 🌟 Go to supervision, connect regularly with peers and loved ones and have, as a Counsellor and Coach, weekly therapy to ensure I stay emotionally well This is what works for me. It keeps me grounded, centred and able to work well with my clients. But I’m curious, what works for you? What routines have you established to keep the four pillars of mental, emotional, spiritual and physical health well and in check? All recommendations welcome!
