Our Demo Day and the F&A Next event were a big success.   🛥️ Yesterday, after a dynamic F&A Next day, we celebrated our successes with a charming boat tour through the canals of Amsterdam. It was the perfect ending to a week packed with engaging talks, insightful presentations from startups, scale-ups, investors, and corporates, all dedicated to revolutionizing the food and agri-sectors. 🗨️ Throughout the week, we delved into pressing issues within the food and agriculture industry, exploring innovative solutions. Highlights included high cuisine tastings made from commonly wasted foods and a critical session on water security, underscoring the importance of sustainable water management in the years to come. 🤝 Networking was, as always, a cornerstone of the event. We connected with numerous passionate startups and impactful investors and corporates, each bringing their vision for a sustainable future in food and agriculture. ⭐ Let's continue to accelerate the solutions we need in the food and agri-space. Last week, I stepped out of my comfort zone to deliver a 3-minute pitch at Startup Portugal, representing Builtrix - a startup that automates energy data collection to drive decarbonization and sustainability. Coming from a technical background, pitching was a new challenge, but I’m glad I took it on. Here are my key takeaways: 🗝️ 𝐒𝐢𝐦𝐩𝐥𝐢𝐜𝐢𝐭𝐲 𝐢𝐬 𝐤𝐞𝐲: In a 3-minute pitch, skip the technical details. Focus on a clear, simple message. 📖 𝐒𝐭𝐨𝐫𝐲𝐭𝐞𝐥𝐥𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐦𝐚𝐭𝐭𝐞𝐫𝐬: Introduce your solution with a story—like, "Let me introduce you to Maria..." who faces the challenges you’re solving. It draws the audience in and makes the problem relatable. 💪 𝐂𝐨𝐧𝐟𝐢𝐝𝐞𝐧𝐜𝐞 𝐢𝐬 𝐜𝐫𝐮𝐜𝐢𝐚𝐥: Delivering your pitch with confidence makes your message more persuasive and impactful. The experience was both challenging and rewarding, offering a great opportunity to learn from other pitches as well. Innovations are happening less and less within companies and more in so-called innovation clusters as part of open innovation initiatives and collaborations between established companies and startups. 𝐁𝐫𝐢𝐝𝐠𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐜𝐨𝐫𝐩𝐨𝐫𝐚𝐭𝐞 𝐬𝐭𝐫𝐞𝐧𝐠𝐭𝐡 𝐰𝐢𝐭𝐡 𝐬𝐭𝐚𝐫𝐭𝐮𝐩 𝐚𝐠𝐢𝐥𝐢𝐭𝐲 𝐬𝐞𝐞𝐦𝐬 𝐭𝐨 𝐛𝐞 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐦𝐚𝐠𝐢𝐜 𝐟𝐨𝐫𝐦𝐮𝐥𝐚 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐢𝐧𝐧𝐨𝐯𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧. Yesterday and today, Brad VanAuken is attending the Grow-NY Summit in Ithaca, NY. Twenty finalists from across the country and the world are pitching their agricultural startups for the $1 million grand prize and lesser prizes. A requirement is that they would locate their operations in the Grow-NY region. There is quite a robust agricultural entrepreneurship ecosystem in Upstate New York. The startups have presented innovative high-tech solutions that reduce waste, reuse byproducts and create better food products without artificial ingredients or preservatives.
