🌍 Six years until 2030 - and only 15% of the Sustainable Development Goals #SDGs are on track. The world needs renewed urgency now. The SDGs are the cornerstone of the #2030Agenda and reflect an understanding that development everywhere must integrate economic growth, social well-being and environmental protection. They offer the most practical and effective pathway to tackle the causes of poverty, violent conflict, human rights abuses, climate change and environmental degradation. 🇺🇳The High Level Political Forum on Sustainable Development is the largest global forum to review progress and advance implementation of the SDGs. It takes place every year in the United Nations Headquarters in New York, this year from 8-17 of July. 🇩🇪 Germany is a staunch supporter of the #GlobalGoals. #HLPF2024 is a moment to take note of the progress that has been made - and to take decisive action for further implementation in order to safeguard a livable future for all. The 79th session of the United Nations General Assembly represents a pivotal moment in the global push to advance the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Since its adoption in 2015 as part of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, the SDGs aim to tackle pressing global challenges such as poverty, inequality, climate change, environmental degradation, peace, and justice. The 2024 session highlights the importance of accelerating progress toward the SDGs, especially considering that the world is nearing the halfway mark toward the 2030 deadline. Many goals are off-track due to economic instability, conflicts, and the ongoing impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic. The 79th session of the United Nations General Assembly in 2024 is a pivotal moment for accelerating progress towards the 17 Sustainable Development Goals. The upcoming High-Level Summit during the UNGA emphasizes the need for enhanced international cooperation to tackle climate change, poverty, inequality, conflicts, and global health crises. The UN Department of Global Communications will host the SDG Media Zone from 23-27 September, featuring impactful discussions on crucial global issues. Heads of State and Government will convene at the UN Headquarters in New York on 22-23 September 2024 to address global governance challenges highlighted by recent events. The Summit's goal is to reinforce commitments to the SDGs and the UN Charter, fostering cooperation and establishing a robust multilateral system. The outcome will be a Pact for the Future, focusing on strengthening global cooperation to address current challenges effectively for the benefit of all and future generations. Additionally, the Secretary-General will organize the Summit of the Future Action Days on 20 and 21 September 2024 to engage all stakeholders actively. 🌍 Education, healthcare, energy, social security and care are human rights. The public services that provide them form the foundation of a dignified life. 📉 Today, these rights are at risk due to the climate and economic crises, which exacerbate poverty levels and threaten development across the world. 🌐 Instruments such as the #PactForTheFuture will play an essential role in shaping a more equitable path forward. 💡 The #SummitOfTheFuture is a unique opportunity to recharge efforts toward existing global commitments and face emerging challenges. 🤝 Between September 21 and 22, world leaders will gather for the #SummitOfTheFuture at the United Nations with a single objective: to forge a new international consensus for a better future.

The Urgency of Action: Building a Better Future 💬🌱 The world is facing a multitude of challenges, from global conflicts to climate change and economic inequality. The consequences of inaction are becoming increasingly dire, and it is imperative that we take immediate steps to address these issues. The humanitarian crises caused by ongoing conflicts are reaching catastrophic proportions. Millions of people are displaced, facing hunger, disease, and the loss of loved ones. The destruction of infrastructure and the disruption of essential services are hindering efforts to rebuild and recover. We cannot stand by while innocent lives are lost and communities are torn apart. The environmental crisis is also intensifying. Climate change is causing extreme weather events, rising sea levels, and the loss of biodiversity. The destruction of ecosystems and the depletion of natural resources are threatening the survival of countless species and putting the future of humanity at risk. We must act now to mitigate the effects of climate change and protect our planet for future generations. The economic consequences of global conflicts and the environmental crisis are also far-reaching. Poverty, inequality, and economic instability are fueling social unrest and hindering development. We must work towards creating a more equitable and sustainable economic system that benefits everyone, not just a privileged few. In addition to these pressing challenges, we must also address the root causes of conflict and violence. This includes promoting peace, tolerance, and understanding, as well as addressing issues of governance, human rights, and social justice. We must work towards building a world where everyone feels safe, secure, and respected. The time for inaction is over. We must act now to build a better future for ourselves and for generations to come. Young People: Key Drivers of Peace, Climate Action, and National Building in Line with the Institute for Economics and Peace (IEP) Agenda The Institute for Economics and Peace (IEP) is a leading think tank dedicated to developing metrics to analyze peace and to quantify its economic benefits. The IEP's agenda prioritizes peacebuilding, climate action, and national building as essential for achieving sustainable development and global prosperity. Young people play a vital role in driving these agendas forward. As the largest generation in history, young people are uniquely positioned to contribute to peacebuilding, climate action, and national building efforts. - Promote social cohesion and reconciliation through community-based initiatives - Support conflict resolution and prevention through advocacy and activism - Foster inclusive and participatory decision-making processes The IEP's Global Peace Index (GPI) highlights the importance of addressing the root causes of conflict and promoting sustainable peace. Young people can help to achieve this goal by engaging in peacebuilding efforts and promoting a culture of peace. In climate action, young people can: - Advocate for climate justice and sustainability through activism and awareness-raising campaigns - Support the development and implementation of climate-resilient policies and projects - Promote sustainable lifestyles and behaviors through education and community engagement The IEP's research highlights the critical link between climate change and peace. Young people can help to address this challenge by promoting climate action and sustainability. In national building, young people can: - Contribute to shaping the social, economic, and political fabric of their countries through civic engagement and activism - Support the development of inclusive and participatory governance systems - Foster a sense of national identity and social cohesion through community-based initiatives The IEP's research emphasizes the importance of strong, inclusive institutions in promoting peace and prosperity. Young people can help to achieve this goal by engaging in national building efforts and promoting a culture of inclusive governance. Lastly, young people are key drivers of peace, climate action, and national building in line with the IEP's agenda. By empowering and supporting young people, we can unlock their potential to contribute to a more peaceful, sustainable, and prosperous world. #iepambassadors #peace

We are at a critical juncture in the #ClimateCrisis, and 2024 is a landmark year for #democracy.
