Recognizing the cruise industry as a significant economic accelerator, Zaiton is advocating for regional benchmarks against top cruise destinations like the U.S. and the Mediterranean, particularly in areas of immigration and policy frameworks. Zaiton emphasizes the need for dedicated cruise infrastructure, ongoing industry education, and consistent policy enhancements to make the region more attractive and accessible to cruise lines. His extensive experience includes working with the GAC Group on its cruise business and consulting for Ras Al Khaimah and Sharjah, helping to shape the cruise sector's evolution since 2006 in the Persian Gulf. Highlighting the strategic role of airlift capabilities, Zaiton notes the improvements that have broadened the region's accessibility. He also points to the emerging cruise market in Saudi Arabia, where Cruise Saudi has been instrumental in educating a new generation of cruisers and spurring competitive port developments. According to Zaiton, the region is poised for significant port development, with 25 destinations across the Gulf and Red Sea showing robust interest. While he acknowledges the untapped potential in places like Egypt and Sudan, current conditions necessitate a cautious approach. Additionally, through Zaiton Destinations, he serves as the ground handler and shore excursion provider for Cordelia Cruises, which focuses on the Indian market. Zaiton advises a long-term perspective for entering the Indian cruise market, underscoring the importance of sustained commitment to fostering growth and expanding the cruise ecosystem in the Middle East and beyond. Zaiton’s efforts underscore a strategic push to position the Middle East as a burgeoning hub for cruise tourism, aligning with global standards and enhancing the region's appeal to international cruise lines and travelers.
