As we grow, our dreams shift. For many, Berlin was once the ultimate city—packed with startups, creativity, and life. But now, a new dream is emerging: Leipzig. Here’s why it might be your next destination: 💼 Job Market: Berlin may have had its moment, but now it’s overcrowded with inflated startups and fierce competition. Leipzig, on the other hand, offers a growing job market with easier access for professionals looking to build their careers without getting lost in the shuffle. 🏠 Rent: Berlin’s rental market is a struggle—sky-high prices and limited options make finding a place exhausting. Leipzig? More affordable rent, and you actually have choices. It’s the ideal balance of quality living and financial freedom. 🏥 Healthcare: Sick in Berlin? You could be waiting weeks to see a doctor. In Leipzig, appointments with specialists are faster, meaning better access to healthcare when you need it. 🎨 Art Scene: Berlin is known for its chaotic street art and underground culture, but some say it’s spiraling out of control. Leipzig, on the other hand, offers a fresh perspective with modern art galleries and exhibitions that are more refined but equally vibrant. 🌍 Community: Berlin’s appeal to expats means it’s often overcrowded and rundown, losing some of its local charm. Leipzig? A younger, more diverse crowd that's still deeply rooted in local culture. It's a place where community feels more genuine and connected. Do you think Leipzig is new Berlin, a secret gem you still have time to enjoy? Tell us in the comments! 👶🛝 Thinking about working in Germany? Back in Berlin next month after a long time and speaking to people it seems like a Tech hub recovering after a tough 18-24 months. Berlin is basically all Tech, so naturally has really felt the swing in the Tech industry - more than most cities in Europe. And with the amount of international talent that relocated in the post covid boom there is was a lot of talent around, and not so many jobs to match it. From our job flow other cities in Germany and Europe seemed to have fared better in the past 12 months than Berlin, you forget that Berlin Tech is a pretty young eco-system compared to other far more developed and diversified cities. But things do seem to be looking up for Tech and the city. How is everyone else in the city finding it? #SoftwareEngineering #TechRecruitment #Ventellect

The new melting pot. The #1 unicorn city outside Silicon valley is sizzling hot. Stockholm has a sky high percentage of first and second generation immigrants. Higher than famously cosmopolitan hubs like London or Paris. Some people only see the challenges of immigration. Personally, I choose to focus on the upsides. The pulse. The diversity, creativity, and energy … I just love it. When I grew up here in the 50s and 60s, the Swedish capital was a safe, prosperous, and pieceful but oh so monochrome and dull corner of the world. No reason to go there, except for the beautiful archipelago right on its doorstep. Labour immigration from war-torn Europe was high but mainly benefitted smaller industrial towns. Our capital city remained very … Swedish. Any odd visitors from more remote parts of the world were bound to attract curious attention. Not anymore. 43 UNICORNS, AND COUNTING Today, Stockholm is every bit as cosmopolitan and vibrant as ever Amsterdam, Paris, Berlin, or London. Okay, New York is still one step ahead in this respect, but … we’re getting there. In more ways than one. A steady influx of human talent, ideas, capital, and ambition continues to rejuvenate and energize the business, tech, and creative sectors. Music and gaming … fintech, med tech, and marketing … communication … automation … As of 2023, Sweden had produced fully 43 “unicorns” = companies valued at more than a billion US dollars. Not bad for a country totaling 10 million people. A very limited base for domestic business expansion. Stockholm is now the #1 unicorn city outside Silicon Valley. Long established globetrotters such as Volvo, Scania, Ericsson, H&M, and IKEA evolved over many decades. Now a new generation innovative scale-ups go straight for the world. Established in Stockholm in 2019, Phyron AI is rapidly evolving into an international, multi-cultural powerhouse. Automating AND boosting automotive retail advertising. The Phyron hub in Brighton already serves customers in Britain as well as the US and Canada. And now … no wonder we’re hiring! #aimarketing #aiautomation #aisales #hiring #stockholm #brighton #northamerica #usa #canada The only way to describe it:

You Are Always Where You're Meant to Be! Today, I realized why I ended up in Berlin and why people associate this city with freedom 🇩🇪❤️. Berlin is a symphony of freedom, self-discovery, and support! On my quest for purpose, uniqueness, and fulfillment, it’s no surprise that I ended up in Berlin. After all, Berlin offers: 1. Freedom to Be Yourself: - Uniqueness, Not Conformity: If you know your uniqueness, Berlin will accept and support you, surrounding you with the right people, ideas, and opportunities. If you're feeling empty, the city might overwhelm you with its vastness or turn you into an eternal partygoer. - No Social Expectations: There are no societal templates here. Everyone is free to be who they want to be, without judgment. - Self-Expression: Fashion here ranges from boring to bold, reflecting the city’s acceptance of everyone. Your appearance is another way to express your uniqueness. 2. Drive and Equal Opportunities at Any Age: - Startups and Innovation: Berlin is the city of startups, innovation, and constant transformation. Regardless of age, anyone can start their journey here. - Support and Inspiration: The city inspires and supports all who are ready to take action. Age is just a number! 3. Responsibility for Your Choices: - Personal Boundaries: Berlin respects personal boundaries. Your life is your responsibility. The city inspires but never dictates. - Action and Response: If you need help, just ask, and you'll receive an amazing response. - Conscious Freedom: Freedom here is about making conscious choices and taking responsibility for them. No wonder, this city helps me to discovered my superpower and uniqueness. I am a Catalyst and an Enabler! And soon I am launching my transformation program to help anyone reach a new level easily and with joy. My website will be live soon, where you can find all the details. So stay tuned... In the meantime, tell me - how does your city "sound" to you? - Do you feel its support? - What does it give you, and what does it take away? - For those in Berlin, do you feel the same? Founding a Company in Germany vs. the Rest of the World? Or: Are you ready for your “Mitarbeiterbeteiligungsprogramm”? I've lived and worked in seven countries, many in my network have started companies internationally. What’s different in Germany? Here are a few things fellow founders need to know: - Your Notary, Your New BFF: Expect to spend lots of time with your notary, navigating endless paperwork and jointly killing a few trees along the way. Yes, everything must be printed. - Tongue Twisters Galore: Get ready to master words like Mitarbeiterbeteiligungsprogramm, Arbeitnehmervertrag, and Finanzbuchhaltungssystem. - Workers' Councils: Employees can form one when your company hits five people. - Work-Life Separation: Germans are pros at separating work and life. If you want to find out about their weekend family stories, you’ll have to ask :) - Employee security: Is high - e.g. 3 month notice periods, attractive severance packages … and accordingly long hiring cycles. - Equity Incentives: Are less common compared to the US. Terms like VSOP, cliff, good leaver may still need explaining to your new hires. Jokes and complaints aside, there are plenty of upsides: - Old Economy Meets New Tech: Germany's massive old economy (machinery, automotive, energy, transport) brings billions in revenue and is ripe for new technologies. - Hidden Champions: 50-60% of the world’s hidden champions are in Germany. These are founders who navigated the system to build global leaders in their niches. Impressive. - Talent everywhere: In a geographically distributed workforce, you’ll find talent all around the map, not just Berlin. - Paper Processes: Many business processes still run on paper, meaning there's a lot of room for entrepreneurial innovation. - Engineering Excellence: Germany has one of Europe’s largest engineering workforces, with about 140k engineering graduates annually—a huge asset for any startup. - In good company: Or age diversity. While the average founder is 35-40, there's a growing number of young entrepreneurs straight out of universities and university spin-offs. Starting a business in Germany has its quirks, but that’s also part of the opportunity. What’s your “wish I had known” about founding in Germany? #startup #germany #founders

„Der Sommer kam und Berlin war der schönste Platz auf Erden.” There’s something magical about Berlin in the summer. 🌞 (Although maybe not today - it. is. greyyy...) This is my third summer here and as the days grow longer and the city comes to life, it really does become the most beautiful place on earth. The summer brings out the best of Berlin – from the street festivals to the lakes and parks. The city's energetic, forward-thinking "anything is possible" vibe really comes to life. I'm proud to call Berlin home for me and for Pack. I've always been a firm believer that you should be as embedded as possible within the markets you recruit. Only then can you truly understand your clients and candidates. But being headquartered here isn't just a logistical choice; it’s a reflection of our connection to the city's spirit and culture. And as the summer starts, I'm super excited for us to continue growing and thriving here. Here’s to another Berlin summer – and to all the brilliant individuals and companies who make it their home. (P.s. who knows where this picture was taken?) LP ✌️ Pack GTM | SaaS Sales Recruitment in Germany #sales #hiring #careers #startups #recruitment

Reflection on our expansion to the German market from Berlin Airport (once again) ✈️🇩🇪 The last four days were spent in the company of the great people behind LEAP FORWARD and the Berlin Innovation Agency (BIA), who put together an exciting program. Waitly was one of the most mature participants, as we are already established, and much of the input covered topics we had addressed a year ago. Was it still valuable? I believe it was. Entering a new market is a lot about building connections with people who know others that can support your entry. Networking has always been, and continues to be, the most powerful tool for us in finding potential customers, partners, and investors 🤝 One partner who has been instrumental in spreading the word about us is our payment gateway provider, Billwerk+. After helping us secure the right payment solution for Germany, they found our story compelling and decided to interview me about our product, expansion, and marketing strategies. I think this interview highlights some of our challenges and opportunities very well (link in the comments) 📈 Pay it forward - help those around you, and it will come back to you twice over! In the next two weeks, I have three meetings with other startups considering scaling to Germany, and I hope I can support them, even if just a little, on their journey 🌱
