🔒 Navigating the complexities of security control efficacy remains a challenge for insurers, policymakers, and cybersecurity vendors alike. Reliance on external scanning data is hampered by this uncertainty, making it difficult to realise the full potential of the underlying data in assessing risk. We've worked towards addressing this challenge for the past 3.5 years and we're thrilled to share our latest study conducted on Bitsight data, which marks the largest study on external scanning to date. Key Takeaways 💡 📌 With scanning technology excelling at identifying the 20% of worst performing companies and those companies representing a 3X likelihood of loss, we estimate targeted use of external scanning could have reduced loss ratios by up to 16%. 📌 IP address count is an important claim frequency predictor, even within a particular revenue band, complementing the view revenue provides of the size and potential attack footprint of an organisation. 📌 Certain Single Point of Failure (SPoF) data is predictive of claims, but more work needs to be done for this to become 'plug and play' for underwriting. 📌The relative utility of different risk factors in anticipating loss has shifted with the evolving threat landscape with Mobile Application Security on the rise as Port Security falls in importance. Whilst this is a milestone, there's much more work to be done to realise the potential of this technology.
