To mark #KinshipCareWeek, we have published a new paper exploring birth mothers’ experiences of having children in kinship care.
When it works well, we know that kinship care can be a positive arrangement, enabling children to be brought up in safe, loving homes within their family network. However, due to the complex nature of family relationships, unique challenges can arise. This paper highlights the experiences of birth mothers who have children placed in kinship care. You can read the paper here: https://lnkd.in/exXK5CB7
We're looking forward to continuing our thinking on how best to improve support for the whole kinship family. If you have any questions or would like to help us shape our future thinking, please get in touch.
What does it take to raise thriving adults? 🤔 Greg Frigoletto sits down to answer this exact question. It’s essential to be open for dialogue between you and your children that invites compassion.
Our children are navigating their lives just like we try to. It’s up to us to guide them toward a future of hope and positive choices.

Becoming a grandparent is a joyous occasion, filled with anticipation and dreams of the future. When your grandchild has special needs, it can also bring a host of unexpected emotions and challenges. It’s okay to feel overwhelmed, but remember, you’re not alone. Here are some tips to help you navigate this journey:
-Have patience as you adjust to this latest information and give yourself space to process it.
-Love your grandchild’s parents in practical and helpful ways.
-Accept your grandchild’s disability so you can be genuinely supportive parents to your children when they need you.
-Move past your fears for the sake of those you love.
-Assure the grandchild that you love them just as much as those who preceded them or those who will follow.
-As grandparents, take the time to get the basic facts about your grandchild’s disability and its accompanying struggles or challenges.
Remember, every child is unique and brings their own special light into the world. Your love and support can make a world of difference.

Reflecting on a Vital Question: What Permission Do I Need to Be Present and Be a Dad for My Kids?
In my latest discussion, I explore a question that touches the core of fatherhood: our inherent right and the profound journey of being present for our children. It's a conversation that I believe is essential for every parent, especially fathers, who are navigating the beautiful complexities of parenthood.
I want to extend my deepest gratitude to Alex Lonati and the incredible team at SpeakEasy Stage Company for orchestrating a remarkable event last weekend. The panel brought together fervent advocates for fatherhood in Boston, setting the stage with the poignant play ‘A Case for the Existence of God.’ This narrative, which delves into the lives of two fathers, was the perfect precursor for our panel discussions. These conversations were not only enlightening but also deeply moving, highlighting the diverse experiences and challenges faced by fathers today.
The event was a magnificent opportunity to learn from and celebrate the impactful work being done on behalf of fathers and families by John Badalament, Daniel Alfaro, MSW, LCSW, and many others dedicated to this cause. It was a privilege to be part of such a passionate group of advocates, sharing insights and strategies to support fathers in their quest to be actively involved in their children's lives.
I am inspired by the dedication and passion of everyone involved in last weekend's panel and the broader community working towards positive change for fathers and families. It's clear that when we come together, share our experiences, and offer our support, we can make a significant impact.

Happy Fathers Day.
Happy family day every day.
Here’s to fathers taking more time to be with their kids, to help at home, to be fully involved.
Here’s to trying to be the most supportive and encouraging partners and fathers.
To giving your all, always. To sacrifice opportunities to be just dads. To want the chance and take it. To trying to live up to what our kids deserve.
To get muddy and playful. To be covered in diapers or spaghetti, to chasing the kids, tidying up, to being silly. To do the homework and the admin, the stuff no one really wants to do.
Here’s to listening to their wives / partners. Putting them first whenever you can. Trying to really be better and do better.
And to occasionally even being right 🥳
And that’s more than enough!
Wonderful news Jake, congratulations to Karla!!!! And knowing you both, I’m sure the humor envelopes the truth, challenges and delights of motherhood!
