I am shocked to read that the men’s triathlon at the 2024 Paris Olympics has been postponed due to poor water quality in the Seine River. It’s alarming that in the 21st century, a city as advanced as Paris still faces water pollution issues like E. Coli from wastewater discharges. If a leading city like Paris struggles to manage its wastewater and ensure safe E. Coli levels, what can we expect in developing countries? This highlights the urgent need to improve our water treatment infrastructure. As leaders in water management, we must ensure that every drop returned to our rivers and seas is contaminant-free and safe for public health and the environment. With technology and knowledge on our side, it’s time to accelerate the implementation of innovative solutions to guarantee water quality. From more efficient treatment systems to strict sustainability policies, every action counts. We cannot let incidents like this continue. Water quality is crucial not only for elite sports but for the daily lives of millions worldwide. Air Liquide, as official hydrogen supporter of the Games, is committed to using its expertise to ensure hydrogen is a key part of the transition.
