WHAT DOES CLINICAL EXCELLENCE LOOK LIKE? Further to yesterday's post we discussed in the 4P weekly group session yesterday also these key points: Developing strong diagnostic and reasoning skills We emphasised the need for clinicians to develop strong diagnostic and clinical reasoning skills. We advised new graduates to be honest about the limits of their knowledge, rather than guessing or making up diagnoses. We encourage seeking mentorship to fill gaps in understanding between the initial and follow-up visits. Building a strong therapeutic alliance We highlighted the critical importance of building a strong therapeutic alliance with clients. We explained that if a patient does not trust the clinician's ability to help them, they are unlikely to engage with the recommended treatment, regardless of its quality. We provided an example of how a breakdown in the therapeutic alliance led to a patient seeking care elsewhere. Addressing contributing factors, not just symptoms We stressed the need for clinicians to address the underlying contributing factors to a patient's condition, rather than just focusing on symptom relief. We provided an example of a new graduate who achieved short-term pain relief but did not address the root causes, leading the patient to seek alternative care. We emphasised the importance of following evidence-based guidelines for treatment frequency, particularly in the early stages of care If you are interested in our 12 month program designed for young or overseas-trained clinicians here is a link which shows our content https://lnkd.in/g6gWudq8
