Would love to hear my network's thoughts on this story: Lloyds to cut risk control jobs as they are a "blocker to transformation" even as the costs of a car loan probe could end up being as much as £2.5B. The internal memo that sparked the news story was shared internally last month by the Banking Group's Chief Risk Officer. In it, they report two-thirds of executives saw risk management as a blocking process whilst under half the workforce reported being encouraged to intelligently take risks. For context Lloyds is two years into a £4B, five-year restructuring to diversify its income away from mortgages. It has also set aside another £450M to cover potential costs of a probe it lost out to—forcing Trade Unions to comment on the internal memo as having "potentially catastrophic consequences for the future of the bank." As I say in the video, accusations of blocking innovation are not new; they're even sometimes valid. We all know bureaucracy is the industry's favourite boogie-man. But cutting talent, with all that knowledge, understanding of the market, regulators, at this point in time, seems...well...risky...
