They are the result of decades of hard work, diplomacy, and the unwavering belief in the power of togetherness. But we must stay vigilant. ⚠️ There are forces out there, lurking in the shadows, seeking to undermine the very foundations of our peaceful and engaged European way of life. AND yes we're not perfect as we want to be 😎 These enemies of freedom come in many forms: misinformation campaigns aimed at sowing discord, extremist ideologies that threaten our democratic values, and external powers that wish to weaken our union. They thrive on division and chaos, hoping to fracture our solidarity and erode the liberties we hold dear. 🛡️ But we, the citizens of Europe, are stronger than that. We are resilient. We are united. And we are determined to protect our home. 💪 This election is more than just casting a vote; it’s about standing up for what we believe in. It’s about defending the principles of democracy, freedom, and peace that our European Union stands for. By participating in this election, we send a powerful message to those who seek to disrupt our unity: We will not be divided. We will not be defeated. ✊ So, let’s come together, from every corner of our beautiful continent, to exercise our democratic rights. Let’s vote for a future where our children can grow up in a Europe that continues to be a beacon of hope and a model of cooperation. Your actions and beliefs matter! No idea is too wild or impossible if you truly believe in it. Yesterday, we celebrated Europe's Day, commemorating peace and unity on the continent. It marks the anniversary of the historic 'Schuman declaration', a visionary proposal for political cooperation that laid the foundation for the European Union as we know it today. Since then, Europe has worked tirelessly to improve the lives of its citizens. Having experienced life outside the Union and now as a proud Swedish and European citizen, I've come to appreciate the freedoms we often take for granted – freedom of movement, education, and employment. It's a privilege that many around the world long for. As we approach the upcoming European Union elections from June 6th to 9th, it's crucial that we use our vote to choose representatives who will uphold these values of peace and unity. As we approach the European elections on June 6-9, 2024, I feel compelled to share something deeply personal. The first time I voted, I felt an incredible sense of empowerment, knowing that my voice could shape our collective future. This upcoming election holds that same promise for all of us. The video I am sharing here beautifully captures the essence of our democratic journey – the struggles, the victories, and the immense privilege of casting our vote. It’s a poignant reminder that every vote counts and every voice matters. Reflecting on the Europe I want for my children, I envision a continent that celebrates diversity, fosters innovation, and upholds the values of unity and human rights. This vision can only be realized if we all participate. In today’s uncertain world, a strong, united Europe is more critical than ever. The policies shaped by our votes will impact our environment, economy, security, and overall well-being. By voting, we influence the trajectory of our continent. Let’s take a moment to recognize the power we hold. Our vote is a chance to advocate for change, to ensure our Union remains a beacon of democracy. Let’s not take this responsibility lightly. Tomorrow, 6 June 2024, there will be elections for the European's Parliament. Admittedly, the current - predominantly economic and financial - European Union isn't perfect yet and perhaps it will never be perfect. Nevertheless I am a strong believer that we should take the EU to the next stage: the creation of a free, democratic, unified and federal United States of Europe. A federal Europe that not only relies on the knowledge, resources and skills of all of its Europeans, but also promotes democracy, individual freedom as well as diversity and sustainability among all of its European citizens. A federal Europe that respects and embraces the infinite number of differences between its nation-states and among its European citizens. A federal Europe that not only uses one currency, but it also entails one single foreign policy and it has one integrated European army, fully active within and part of NATO, that deters Europe's opponents. A free and democratic Europe that stands up against fascist, authoritarian leaders. Therefore my advice to you is: tomorrow, vote for a pro-Europe party, and when you do that, do realize that you actually can vote thanks to the democracy in many European countries as well as your prosperity, your wealth and your good health – all of it the beneficial result of 75 years of economic cooperation and coordination within Europe. Undoubtedly quite a few people will disagree with me about my post and the statement in it, and that is fine with me. You are welcome to disagree with me, as long as you realize that your right to discuss and to dispute whatever someone else in Europe says or stands for is one of the positive legacies of all these EU years too. Divided we fall, together we are strong.

It is inspiring to see more than 30 German companies join together under the banner of "We stand for values" to champion diversity, openness and tolerance. Their call to action ahead of the European elections is exactly what is needed at this crucial time. Let us confront complacency and the corrosive forces that are currently threatening our democracy head-on. It has been a hundred years since pivotal changes, yet we must actively uphold our cherished values and defend democracy now, more than ever.
