I'm looking forward to this presentation on Tuesday, September 10 by Jonathan Johnson, Ed.D, LMHC, a Community Health Educator, Community Activist, and Higher Education Leader with 15 years of experience championing health equity. This webinar description: "The healthcare profession has gained an increased understanding of the impact of the experience of both individual and structural racism on health. As we have sought to increase practitioners’ awareness of oppressive language and best practices for creating inclusion there has been an increasing divide between those that are applying inclusive language and practices and those who do not. Some have stated that DEIB has been weaponized by some leading to other forms of harm. Is this possible? Could certain principles be misapplied by individuals or organizations? This webinar will explore this concept further to help practitioners apply principles in a manner that invites divergent perspectives to the table and leads to lasting systemic change. The U.S. public health system relies depends on the legal infrastructure providing authority for federal, state and local actions. During COVID-19, federal, state and local officials took actions to mitigate disease spread and to protect the public’s health. Many of the actions were subject to legal challenges. This study by Michelle Mello of Stanford Law is the first study to examine how COVID-19-era decisions may constrain public health legal powers going forward. Did You Know? In July 2024, the NYS Department of Health adopted changes to state regulations governing the SHIN-NY – the first-ever amendments since 2016. In its role as the State Designated Entity, NYeC is partnering with DOH to lead a series of regulatory reform initiatives to support SHIN-NY transformation. First up is the implementation of a uniform legal framework – the Statewide Common Participation Agreement (SCPA) – to streamline and promote efficient health information exchange throughout New York. Once implemented, all SHIN-NY Qualified Entities and participants will be required to sign the SCPA. On Wednesday, September 18th at 11:00AM, NYeC will host an all-comer webinar to provide an overview of the proposed SCPA and open a public comment period. To learn more and register to attend, please visit: https://lnkd.in/gYdDVXwW NYeC will release additional information on the SCPA and other regulatory reform initiatives in the coming months, including opportunities for stakeholder engagement, online at www.nyehealth.org.

Had the privilege of co-hosting a Zoom session with Stanley Greene of PowerThinking Corp in Philadelphia. I shared my personal journey of overcoming trauma, from transitioning from an Air Force military BRAT to a Navy Petty Officer during DESERT STORM. Despite facing challenges, I embraced resilience and faced the trauma of my past. Reflecting on the impact of Roe vs. Wade, I discussed the feeling of learned helplessness many young women may face. Emotional regulation and diversity of thoughts are crucial, especially in leadership roles. Let's equip ourselves with positive psychology tools and take educated risks in a global economy perspective. Thank you to all who engage in these important discussions. Let's continue to foster resilience and growth mindset in our communities. Embracing diverse roles, I also work part-time as a janitor with Perfection Cleaning Services in Abilene, Texas. Join me every other Friday as a Zoom co-host with NYCMA.org GMHP for "Good Morning Higher Power" sessions. Let's keep the dialogue alive and empower each other on this journey.
