The "Nut Island Effect" is a case study in #management problems-- specifically, what happens when management ignores the essential services and duties of an organization and leaves the technical staff to try to work things out on their own, with insufficient resources, broken or inadequate equipment, and no support from above. While can apply to any organization, this is particularly relevant to #environmental work, because this sort of situation can cause facilities to drift out of compliance (as with the actual Nut Island wastewater facility). https://lnkd.in/e9aDEWb9

In July 1980, a legal strike halted oil and gas output from the Norwegian continental shelf for two weeks. The strike was put into effect 3 July 24:00 hrs after failed negotiations and mediations. The union OFS (today Safe) had been approved as a nationwide organisation in February 1980 and negotiations were initiated with the oil companies to establish a new collective agreement on pay and conditions. The talks also covered clarification of technical aspects such as the tour rotas and working hours, and bargaining over a general pay rise. These issues concerned the foreign oil companies in particular. The negotiations ultimately collapsed. By the time the government finally imposed compulsory arbitration on 18 July 1980, it had lost NOK 1.5 billion in direct and indirect taxes. HOARDING: Sure, the Port workers are on strike. Instead of hoarding and acting like locusts, tell corporate America and your politicians to bring back (livable wage) jobs and, finally, protect the environment. Use tax incentives in exchange for actual job creation (not a republican blank check and expect nothing in return). With more people aware that climate change is a reality (Hurricane Helene), the days of ship/container transportation, which adds to the problem, will be eliminated or more heavily regulated in the future.

As the Canadian rail lockout looms, it’s clear that rail companies are coordinating to undermine union workers by threatening our transportation system. The corporate narrative falsely paints unions as the villains, while these companies bargain in bad faith and strip away essential worker protections. These corporations are not the victims; they are the oppressors, prioritizing profit over safety and fairness. To ensure prosperity for all Canadians, we must stand up for workers’ rights and support our fellow citizens, not foreign shareholders. https://lnkd.in/gSJbpkAB

The looming Canadian rail strike serves as a stark reminder of the critical role supply chains play and the necessity of contingency planning to manage potential disruptions. Chemicals, crucial for pulp and paper mill operations, are often transported by train. Disruptions to rail services can quickly lead to shortages of essential raw materials, such as hydrogen peroxide. Implementing a solution like Phase Two Chemicals' on-site H2O2 generators can significantly mitigate these risks. Our systems ensure a continuous and reliable supply of H2O2, helping mills avoid costly shutdowns and production delays. In uncertain times, investing in resilient supply chain solutions is paramount. Phase Two Chemicals stands ready to support paper mills in securing their operations against unforeseen disruptions. #hydrogenperoxide #phasetwochemicals https://lnkd.in/en-Q5YTa

Interesting additional information on the Port Worker demands. If this is accurate and I am reading it correctly, Key points seem to be the ask to limit or ban automation and the desire for a $5 an hour increase per year. https://lnkd.in/gGERyMbZ
