In this podcast we review both boarding and crowding, the twin kiss of death for an Emergency Department, with Dr. Kraftin Schreyer, an Emergency Medicine physician and ED Administrative Fellowship Director. We discuss boarding and how it can be prevented through surge planning, C-suite buy-in, and cooperation between the in-patient and ED. We then go on to talk about crowding and how it is often a kindred spirit of boarding, but can also exist independently. We discuss options for combating this crowding as well. This post is not about doctors, asthma, or caregivers. It’s about the role of TRUST and COMMUNICATION in healing. The healthcare system is currently battling low recovery rates among patients with chronic conditions. It’s not a prescription problem. It’s not even a question of skills or capabilities. The answer is simple: most patients no longer trust the word of their caregivers. They trust the word of some holistic or DIY treatment influencer on social media because they feel connected to them. They feel like they belong to a community. I’ve worked with hospitals and nursing homes that saw the need to integrate play and community into their systems, and in less than 6 months, recovery rates improved drastically. Community builds belonging, and belonging builds trust. I’m currently offering support on community building for caregivers. If you’re trying to improve recovery rates and communication with your patients, send me a DM or book a call via my Calendly. 👇 https://lnkd.in/gZWWYkqy #itsyourscreativehealing #JenniferRichards #CreativeArtsTherapist #DramaTherapy #mentalhealthcounselor https://lnkd.in/egRvaEe6

Great publication that addresses the misconceptions about the Physician Associate/Assistant Profession. The United States is facing a significant physician shortage projected to worsen over the next decade. Leveraging Advanced Practice Providers is crucial to bridge the gap, to ensure continued high-quality patient care. It’s so important for PAs to advocate for our profession by volunteering with our respective state academies and the American Academy of Physician Associates. As we advance our profession, we need to actively engage with our local governments, get involved in legislation, and share our stories. In this clip from our latest episode, I'm joined by Lance Mabry PT, DPT, OCS, FAAOMPT - Dr. Mabry that is. He talks about being a young clinician and introducing himself by his first name - why he started calling himself "Dr" and some research on patient expectations/beliefs and outcomes. I can't believe it's 2024 and DPTs are still getting called out by BS and MS PTs for using the title Dr. The full episode and convo is here https://lnkd.in/e_m8ie7s
