🐣 The Easter long weekend is coming up and with any long weekend, promises to be a great period of trade for hospitality. Yet, train strikes, tube closures, and wet weather threaten to put a damper on festivities and restrict footfall. 🧐 So, how can you prepare to maximise your opportunities this long weekend? The team at Brigad UK put our heads together and came up with a few ideas: • Create an offer/ discount deal to provide more incentive for people to brave the rain and venture out. • Change or extend your opening hours over the long weekend. • Invest in umbrellas and blankets to keep people warm and dry outside and maximise seating. • Develop your takeaway and delivery options. • Avoid scheduling a whole roster of staff, but instead use platforms like Brigad to find staff on short notice for busy periods. 💡 Any other suggestions? This morning started with a near Christmas disaster! My Waitrose & Partners order arrived, and the seal on the turkey was split, meaning a return was necessary. Adding insult to injury, two whole crates were missing! 😲 Talk about a stressful start to the day, especially so close to Christmas! Now, it would have been easy to let frustration take over. We've all been there. But instead, I chose to simply highlight the issues to the delivery driver and ask what could be done. He immediately phoned the store and organised a replacement turkey and the missing crates for delivery later today. Crisis averted. What happened next truly blew me away. Instead of simply continuing his route, this incredible driver returned just 45 minutes later. He had personally driven back to the store, collected my replacement turkey and the missing crates, and brought them straight to me! This experience was a powerful reminder that even when things go wrong (and let's be honest, they do!), it's the people who ultimately make the difference. This driver's initiative, empathy, and willingness to go the extra mile transformed a potential Christmas nightmare into a shining example of exceptional customer service, true leadership behaviours, that so above and beyond any title. This is why I believe that people, not processes, are the true heart of any successful business. It's the human touch, the ability to connect, empathise, and take ownership that creates truly memorable experiences. This Waitrose driver didn't just deliver groceries; he delivered a lesson in outstanding service and reminded me of the power of human connection. Thank you to this dedicated driver for turning my day around and proving that even the smallest actions can have the biggest impact! I’ve spotted two cool things this week in the ‘safety’ space. 1) Asda’s addition of NHS health messages to relevant products. A great example of not just saying the right thing, but saying the right thing in a super relevant moment - in this case, once that's embedded in the routine itself. The toothpaste version of ‘book your smear test’ signs on the loo doors (which, thank you HR dept, got me on the line to my GP after only about 15 exposures. Persistence pays off.) 2) Aldi’s inclusion of a water-watcher lanyard with their paddling pools (in partnership, by the looks of it, with Safe Kids worldwide). If you don’t know the context, the idea is that kids often go rogue, silently, in a pool and it’s all too easy for the adults present to assume someone else is on pool duty. So you give them a lanyard they have to pass on to someone else before they mentally or physically check out. Problem solved.  It’s a smart and effective evolution of the ‘safety warning’, taking account of human foibles, and offering a solution in the same breath as highlighting the problem. Both signal a genuine and thoughtful commitment to wellbeing that goes beyond a message and into the reality of life. And I’m here for it.
