On 04/10/2024, Hennepin County Sheriff Office (HCSO) had two deputies wounded after receiving gunfire from a suspect. This comes after the deaths of three First Responders in Burnsville, MN on 02/18/2024. In the weeks between these two incidents, Officers have been injured (or received gunfire) in: Burnsville (a second time), Anoka County, Ramsey County, and other jurisdictions. This does not include the five Deputies from Benton County Sheriff Office injured by gunfire on 10/13/2023. Minnesota law enforcement is competent, caring, and compassionate and I pray for these officers and their families.
In an article in the Star & Tribune from 02/21/2024 "Attacks on Minn. officers surged over 150% in last decade". Police (and First Responders in general) are under attack at an accelerating pace. Law Enforcement Officers are under attack from political entities at the local, state, and federal level. Even as we speak, a MN State Trooper remains under indictment for a use of force incident that even the county attorney's Use of Force Expert stated was justified.
What I am advocating for is that MN law enforcement officers "refuse" to participate in a system that makes them "pawns" for criminal behavior. Find another career or find a smaller department that values your life. For those officers that can't leave, I advocate for "Wildcat Strikes", the use of "Sick Outs", "Blue Flu", increased use of sick leave, increased use of disability retirements, work slowdowns, and in certain cases work shutdowns.
Things will not get better until the number of MN Police Officers gets smaller and politicized administrations must make changes to increase public safety and judicial accountability. For many current and former officers, the thought of a "work slowdown", leaving a chosen profession, or a potentially illegal strike would make most in law enforcement shudder. This is exactly why you must use these techniques. The power to change lies in every one of us. Together we can bring back public safety and rule of law to Minnesota.
For MN Peace Officers, putting on their "body armor with a brave face" and trying to do the "best they can" will not change the failure of these "hyper politicized" administrations. What we see before us with crime, assaults, and non-existent sentences is the "Defund the Police" movement (after almost four years) reaching its moment of clarity.
MN Police Officers will continue to be sacrificed by death or injury multiple times a week following improper use of force policies that ENCOURAGE violent offender behavior. Even if offenders are captured, an almost complete lack of judicial accountability lets the majority of offenders go free.
These methods, that I advocate, were used in strike activity in the 1930's to bring improved conditions to workers who were dying and being injured. Until the food rots on the docks, nothing will change.
BE WELL!

We all know how hard our Hanford Police Department works to keep our community safe. But what you may not know is just how busy they are in 2024.
Every day, a Hanford Police patrol officer averages 13 calls for service, conducts four officer-initiated contacts and makes two traffic stops.
The department had 46,975 calls for service in 2023, up from 44,989 in 2022.
Some of the most common calls include: Disturbances, Suspicious or Unwanted Person, homeless issues, and 911 hangups.
Patrol officers do everything they can to respond to high priority calls as fast as possible—the average response time in 2023 was eight minutes.
But the department is spread thin.
With 65 allocated sworn positions, the department has 1.08 officers per 1,000 people, compared to the national average of 1.5 officers per 1,000 people.
Only three new patrol officer positions have been added in the last 25 years, even as Hanford’s population has increased by more than 50%.

What role should race play in the sentencing of offenders? The answer is there is no way you cannot take the life-experiences of those who cause trauma or negative impact into account when sentencing. We have a long way to go in Canada, and conversations like these are important to continue. For healing to occur for our relatives we have to involve those who caused or inflicted trauma, the person who was impacted, and the community to reach full healing from negative choices.
There is no logical way to say that specific races of marginalized peoples in Canada and in the US have not been negatively impacted by the systems that are supposed to protect our communities. Knowledge and education in this area is key to making change, and absolutely soak up the knowledge you can to make our world a balanced place for healing.

According to a recent study from PERF, for the first time since the start of the pandemic, agencies reported a year-over-year increase in total sworn staffing. Responding agencies reported hiring more sworn officers in 2023 than in any of the previous four years. All this is good news for police agencies nationally. On top of that, agencies are in a position to develop young people from within their communities. The incident involving #firearms officers from Greater Manchester Police has caused an uproar across our communities. The #debate is polarising and has caught the attention of the #PrimeMinister & #HomeSecretary.
I've watched the video on #socialmedia and was shocked by what I saw. I can't conceive a scenario where it's justified to kick an incapacitated detainee in the face before stomping on the back of their head. Our communities deserve better, irrespective of their #Race, #Faith or #Gender. The integrity of our #service is predicated on the robustness of our processes to deliver #justice for our communities. I suspect time will determine whether this is the case or not.....
But I'd like to think we (still) live in a world where we can trust the #Police. Where those who wear the uniform hold true to the #CodeOfEthics and police to keep us all safe. I'd like to think there are (still) #good#people in and around #policing who work #tirelessly to improve its #standards and make it more equitable for our diverse communities.
So in that belief, here's a picture (taken today) of a #white#FirearmsOfficer with another white #retired firearms officer enjoying a coffee with a #Pakistani#Muslim#imam.
We all come from different backgrounds, we all have different stories to tell, but we all believe in the same basic principle of policing: To Protect The Public!
I remain committed to this endeavor and seek inspiration from my faith in doing so. The Quran states "be a just people, even if that (being just) is against yourselves" (Quran 4:135).

Further proof that a "tough on crime" approach is not the way to stop gun violence — keeping guns out of the wrong hands is. A quick case study from The Trace :
NJ ended their cash bail system to help address mass incarceration. Pre-trial detention risks turning non-violent gun offenders into violent ones, and further destabilizes families & communities already hurting from the systemic drivers of violence. And here's the thing: NJ didn't see a rise in crime when they replaced their ability-to-pay bail system with one that looked at an offender's actual risk of committing violence if released.
Let's use data — not unfounded fear — to make effective, equitable public safety policies. And the data is clear from NJ and other states with strong gun laws + low rates of gun violence: stopping a shooter from getting access to a gun is more effective than harshly punishing an offender after the fact.
