Job Applications: Where Are We Going Wrong? We recently posted a job opening for a Flutter developer on LinkedIn. Within 12 hours, we received over 50 resumes—this was for a free job posting. At first, we were impressed by the response, but as we began filtering the applications, disappointment set in. Many applicants did not even seem to have read the job title or description properly. We were looking for Flutter developers based in Rawalpindi/Islamabad, yet we had applications from React Native developers, Python programmers, and even web developers—many of whom were from Lahore or Karachi. This was for a 1-2 years experienced position, and we had expected more diligence in the resumes and cover letters, but very few were tailored to the job. It almost feels like some candidates are sending out mass applications without taking the time to understand the requirements. And then, they complain about applying to 50+ jobs with no interview callbacks. This brings us to the big question: Who is responsible for this unprofessional behavior? Is it the industry for not setting the right expectations, or is it academia for not teaching our youth how to apply effectively for jobs?
