On Fridays I chair Norfolk's Children's Integrated Provision Panel, giving me a rare opportunity to take a step back from my strategic work and hear the stories and experiences of young people. Today, I was reminded of the power of kindness and compassion in our field. Amidst the complexities of children's situations and systems, it's can become easy to overlook their wants and needs. We can become hyper-focused on risks and keeping them safe, forgetting they are children that also need to learn and have fun. Sometimes, they don't neatly fit into our services and fall through gaps. The support children need isn't always clear and as professionals we can feel stuck or even frustrated that we don't know how to help. However, taking a moment to empathise, to truly listen to the child’s voice, can make a world of difference. It's essential to remember: it's the systems that are complex, not the children. Let's strive to show kindness and understanding in every interaction and find opportunities for children to have enjoyment as well as safety. #Children #Kindness #Compassion #Empathy #Support #Listen #Professionalism #ComplexNeeds

Family is the first school where children learn the values of respect, love, and understanding. When families grow together, they create bonds that last a lifetime and form the foundation of strong, resilient individuals. 📌 Tip: Involve your children in family decisions, no matter how small. This gives them a sense of belonging and teaches responsibility early on. The stronger the bond, the more empowered our children will feel to face the world with confidence! #impactfultuesday #growingtogether #familymatters

Before children in Scotland return to school this week, it's important to engage in these important discussions: ☀️Gratitude: Stress the significance of gratitude and valuing what they have, especially their teachers and supporters. ☀️Blessing: Highlight the privilege of receiving an education, having loved ones, and urge them to appreciate these blessings. ☀️Speaking Out: Talk to them about various topics such as kindness, injustice, bullying, respect, success, failure, and learning. Take note of recurring themes or names in their conversations. ☀️Prayer: Encourage them that prayer can bring clarity and is a positive practice. ☀️Consequences: Help them grasp that every action, good or bad, has consequences. Teach them to consider the outcomes before deciding. ☀️Thinking: Educate them on the importance of quiet reflection and processing thoughts. ☀️Observation: Encourage them to observe and identify changes in their environment, suggest improvements, and nurture a sense of community. ☀️Fears: Listen to their fears and worries, whether about losing old friends or making new ones. Reassure them that kindness and friendliness will attract new connections. An important function in parenting is conversation with your children, earmark time to engage and understand the children's emotional well-being through discussions. #backtoschooltips #conversations #backtoschool #scotland

Are you doing for your children what they can learn to do for themselves, or are you empowering them to be independent? Teaching them to handle small tasks on their own builds confidence and resilience. Remember, our job is to prepare them for life, not just make life easy for them. Start with little steps, let them try, make mistakes, and learn from them.
