"Regardless of the weather, my Medi-Van driver is there to pick me up. All I have to do is get on and get in." This quote is from Leo Wilkins, an 88-year-old Air Force Veteran who uses the Jennie Edmundson Foundation Medi-Van program to get to and from therapy appointments. His journey, which you can read more about in our Gratitude report, is an incredible reminder of why the Medi-Van program is so important. The Medi-Van routinely transports patients like Leo to and from physical therapy visits, cancer treatments, cardiac rehab, wound care appointments, and more. 🧠 May is Brain Tumor Awareness Month, shedding light on a sobering reality: brain tumors rank as the most common solid tumors affecting children. 🩺 Early detection stands as our strongest ally in the battle against this formidable foe. Keep a vigilant eye for symptoms like persistent headaches, unexplained nausea, sudden seizures, and noticeable changes in behavior or cognitive function. 💪 Treatment options span a spectrum, from surgical interventions to chemotherapy and radiation therapy, tailored to each child's unique needs. Every child deserves comprehensive care and unwavering support throughout their journey. 🔬 Yet, our journey doesn't end there. Groundbreaking research endeavors offer a beacon of hope, driving towards more effective treatments and ultimately, a cure. Let's rally behind the tireless efforts of researchers and clinicians as they pioneer new pathways towards healing. This May, let's unite in raising awareness and supporting the Children's Brain Tumor Foundation (@CBTF) to amplify our impact and offer hope and assistance to affected children and families. 💙🧠 Join us on Sunday, May 5th for CBTF's 5th Annual May Matters Webathon as we celebrate our community and honor the brain tumor journey together. Cystic Fibrosis Trust has written an article about our recent episode of Can I Butt In?, where Tonia, who has cystic fibrosis, speaks with Professor Daniel Peckham, Professor of Respiratory Medicine at the University of Leeds, and our host and Patient and Public Involvement Manager, Sam Alexandra Rose, about the relationship between cystic fibrosis and bowel conditions. A quote from the Cystic Fibrosis Trust article: "Though the risk of someone with CF developing bowel cancer is low, data from the UK CF Registry 2022 shows that people with CF are also five times more likely to develop bowel cancer than the general population, and this risk increases to 30 times more likely following a transplant." #Stroke research funding as a percentage of the total funding for stroke, coronary heart disease, and cancer is uniformly low, ranging from 2% to 11%. Although the clinical burden and cost of stroke are at least as great as those for cancer, European stroke research is severely underfunded. If this current low level of research spending continues, the potentially preventable long-term sequelae for patients and society will result in an increasing burden of stroke during the coming decades. Stroke Alliance For Europe (SAFE) and European Stroke Organisation call on all European Parliament MEP candidates to help improve our understanding stroke: - Provide sufficient research funding - Improve stroke services with better data - Encourage research into under-examined areas of stroke Click here for the full manifesto: https://bit.ly/3wQjoZl #EUelections #EUhealth #StrokeActionPlan #StrokePrevention #StrokeCare #LifeAfterStroke #StrokeResearch
