My first piano recital was at age 4. I have 2 college degrees in music and have spent the first part of my adult life as a clarinetist and a teacher. It often feels intimidating to leave this world to transition to a more "mainstreamed" type job, so I've spent a lot of time figuring out what skills I bring. 1. Discipline and persistence- Countless hours of detail oriented practicing are a basic standard for preparation. 2. Adaptability - I've performed as a soloist, small groups, and countless ensembles. Each requires different skills, and I've learned to adapt at a moment's notice. 3. Teamwork - I'm one of a larger collective - we work together to make the best experiences. I alone can not put on a performance for 30,000 people, but each one of us brings something to the table. 4. Creativity - Making music is so much more than playing the right notes - this creativity translates to blue sky thinking - finding ideas to improve aspects of more than just the performance. 5. Problem Solving - From discovering mistakes in the music, to figuring out ways to repair instruments on the go, problem solving is par for the course! Maybe these are obvious, but it's been interesting to discover new ways describe what I do!

🎹 Introducing young students to the piano is about more than teaching them to play the right notes at the right time; it's about cultivating a rich awareness of the instrument's diverse sounds. Encouraging students to explore various sounds from their first lessons ignites curiosity and creativity. This exploration helps develop a deeper understanding of dynamics, timbre, and expression. As students learn to identify and manipulate different tones, they gain confidence in their ability to communicate through music, transforming practice into an engaging journey. Early exposure to the piano's sound palette sharpens listening skills, enabling students to discern musical nuances. - How early do you start introducing your students to different colors and timbers of the sounds? Music experts say “The success of a student depends on them, not the teacher” But this couldn’t be further from the truth (here’s why) ↓ When I was 14, I wanted to learn the piano. At the time, I was: - Clueless. - Low on confidence. - Unsure I had what it takes. But I REALLY wanted to learn. So my Dad took me to a local teacher from Church. I started practicing regularly, but I still lacked any real skillset. But my teacher saw some potential in me. - He worked extra hard to develop my skills. - Took me to NYC to play gigs with him. - And most of all, believed in me. Did I think I was good enough for that? Absolutely not! But every time we did a gig, I got a little better. After 1 year of his teaching: - I was 10x more confident. - I had started doing my own gigs. - I knew I had the potential to succeed. Which just goes to show the importance of having a good teacher. Picking the right teacher is just as important as picking the right instrument. Without a good teacher, I would’ve 100% quit & I wouldn’t be where I am today. This is why we work so hard to bring in the best teachers for our YousicPlay students. Because the better the teacher is → The better the student learns.

Too many young musicians I've seen in today's era are gun shy from taking on challenges and learning from different walks of life. In other words, they are too comfortable and believe they've already "made it". The irony is, I used to be one of these young musicians when I started my professional career. I believed my way of playing and teaching was going to revolutionise the world. However, I realised that a major piece of my puzzle was holding me back from taking the next big step from being okay to being great. At the time, I was only 19 and barely lived a life. Underneath all my talent, skill and ability, there was emptiness. No depth, no substance. I didn't know why I was playing and what I played for. So in 2016, I was faced with a choice: 1. Go to music school and be stuck in 4x4 classrooms for another 4 years, having just finished 13 years of school Or 2. Go travel the world and meet people who have experienced adversity, triumph, failure and tragedy in their lives. I chose the latter and this decision was a major turning point in my young life. In the last 8 years, I've learnt from so many people from so many different walks of life including: - Entrepreneurs in fields outside of music such as tech and commerce - Met war veterans who shared stories of what it means to fight for your country - Listened to doctors and healthcare workers who talk about how they come face to face with death on a daily basis And of course, musicians who have lived have built a career that has transcended three different generations from the broadway era, to the radio era, and now the streaming era. A lot of my peers are now coming up to the end of their music degrees, and are struggling to find purpose, and lack direction. Whilst things aren't easy for me either, I know exactly why I am a musician, and every time I teach a student, I teach with purpose. Every time I write about music, I know what I am writing about. And moving forward, I know what I want my music to do for people: To inspire hope, to give people the belief that there is a future where they can succeed as musicians, and do it in a way that reflects the most authentic and honest versions of themselves.

STUDENT TESTIMONIAL: "Hey there, it's Eugenia Pleasure, representing the 757 area of Virginia. I've been on this incredible journey with Piano Lessons with Warren for about a year and a half now. My connection with Warren all started during the pandemic when I stumbled upon his YouTube videos. What immediately drew me in was how effortlessly he made playing chords by ear seem. He showcased various songs at different skill levels, and it got me thinking, "If it's that easy, why not give it a shot?" So, I went all-in, binge-watching his YouTube clips, thinking it would take me to the next level. However, I soon realized I needed more structured learning. That's when Warren had an amazing offer going – just a dollar for a week. I took him up on that, and from there, my musical journey with him has been nothing short of transformative. What sets Warren's teaching apart is that he caters to everyone, from absolute beginners who've never touched a piano to advanced players. The lesson that truly resonated with me was the 12-week progression lesson. It was a game-changer. I learned to play chords and scales in every key, change keys, and even modulate. It was like unlocking a new world of musical possibilities. So, if you're on the fence, I suggest giving Piano Lessons with Warren a try. It's been my path to musical growth, and I can't recommend it enough. You've got nothing to lose and a whole lot of musical magic to gain. Thanks, and good luck on your journey!" Teaching in a music conservatoire, university, or drama school is stressful, and can leave you wondering why you stick with it… So many Higher Education vocational teachers want simply to teach their students their craft, but find the consequences of that teaching being located within a degree programme limiting, constraining, and confusing. No-one really helps you reconcile the craft-work with its degree context and requirements, so the tension between the two eats away at your confidence. If this sounds like you, we need to talk! I can help you explore effective strategies for improving your work situation that will enable you to feel more confident, purposeful, and fulfilled at work. I’m here when you’re ready.
