Jensa Morris’ Post

Increasing cancer screening rates, especially for more vulnerable individuals, is essential. While these screenings are inadvisable to conduct during an unrelated inpatient stay, recent studies show that hospitalists could play a role in identifying at-risk patients. In this study, hospitalists and radiologists coordinate to steer at-risk patients to lung cancer screenings. This can be done using available data during hospitalization and without compromising the more urgent care issues.    As the surveyed hospitalists suggest, providing dedicated teams to address potential screenings could be a valuable addition to hospitals and an asset to patients, while allowing physicians to focus on hospital duties.
