The UBAtc looked forward to the past General Assembly of EOTA on 26 November 2024 with even more interest than usual. The appointment of the new President was on the agenda and we emphasize our gratitude to Sebastian Wall for his past Presidency and wish the new President, Thomas Bruun, much success. The past years have been marked by the revision process of the Construction Products Regulation. The coming period of implementation of that Regulation may have a strong impact on the future of the organisation. In both cases, the President played and will play a key role. As an association of and for the (Belgian) construction sector, the UBAtc has always paid a lot of attention to the activities of EOTA, the organization that coordinates the assessment bodies with regard to the delivery of European Technical Assessments. The UBAtc is very pleased that, in addition to the new chairman, Eric Winnepenninckx, one of the managers of the UBAtc, has also been appointed as a board member of the organization. This underlines the commitment of the UBAtc to the future activities of EOTA. In order to achieve an innovative construction sector, it is essential that the European Technical Assessment remains an efficient and effective instrument for placing innovative products on the market in the European Union. Biosecurity is not only essential in laboratory settings, but it also extends to animal settings. Although the practices and principles differ, but with the one health approach to #biosecurity, emphasis is drawn on the need for collaborative and multidisciplinary effort to #prevent, #detect, and #respond to biosecurity threats. It is pertinent to ensure that stakeholders respond to biosecurity threats irrespective of which setting it applies. It is a great privilege to be elected along side with Christopher Brandt as council members of World Animal Biosecurity Association (WABA) to represent #Africa. Let’s not beat around the bush: storytelling takes time and love for the subject. It requires patience, the ability to stop, restart, take three steps back, and then five forward. The world of sailing, in particular, is far from being filled with romantic seafarers gazing at the ocean with dreamy eyes. It’s made up of passionate and pragmatic individuals, constantly pushing the boundaries – both technical and psychological. People who look far ahead but are entirely focused on the present moment. You can sense it when you watch them in action during an America’s Cup round or in the rare footage from offshore races. But to fully grasp it, you have to talk to them: poetry follows action, not the other way around. Working with SLAM to tell the story of Emirates Team New Zealand was the perfect example of pure, unfiltered storytelling. The kind of project where, if you don’t take the time to observe, listen, and truly understand who you’re dealing with, you won’t get anywhere. A project where satisfaction isn’t measured in smiles or handshakes but in concrete actions. It was one of those challenges where we often thought we wouldn’t make it… and yet, there it is: used by SLAM and ETNZ as part of their America’s Cup communication. It took us some time to realize it, but now we can say it with confidence: we were part of it too. Thanks to Maurizio Priano, SLAM and Emirates Team New Zealand for the opportunity.
