2023 saw the floating wind industry continue to make significant milestones towards full scale commercialisation, with the commissioning of several floating wind farms and new lease areas being announced.   However, the road to widespread adoption is not without its challenges. The winners of the UK’s sixth round of contracts for difference (CfD AR6) have been announced, reviving #offshorewind with more than 5GW allocated after a barren AR5 delivered no wins in 2023. The UK government announced support for 9 offshore wind farms (OWF), including Europe’s largest fixed-foundation wind farm and the world’s largest commercial floating offshore wind farm. Under "permitted reduction", 7 out of the 9 offshore wind projects are parts of OWF which have already received subsidies in previous rounds. Ørsted and a JV of ESB and SDIC subsidiary Red Rock Power emerged as the biggest winners for fixed-foundation capacity allocation. The UK also pledged support to 3,288MW of solar across 93 projects, 990MW of onshore wind (after restrictions on onshore wind development were lifted in July) and 28MW of tidal energy. https://lnkd.in/db5V-J77

Great session yesterday at the Wind Energy Ireland #WEIoffshore (with a majority-female panel 🥳) on what the next 12 months holds for offshore renewables. Answer: a lot. The Future Framework for Offshore Renewables launched two days ago, DMAP2 is on the way, and Ireland’s biggest ever offshore wind consent applications will be going in soon. It’s an exciting year for offshore in Ireland.
