Excess fertilizer nutrients from agricultural fields, namely nitrogen and phosphorus, enter water systems resulting in “eutrophication” – when too many nutrients in the water create toxic conditions for aquatic wildlife. In our recent collaboration with Superorganism, we explored the critical issue of nutrient pollution from agriculture and its impact on ecosystems. The report highlights innovative AgTech solutions to tackle this challenge, including using precision farming techniques, genetically engineering crops to require less fertilizer, and enhancing plant-microbe interactions. Adopting strategies like these along with other responsible management practices can help conserve #biodiversity around the world. In its split verdict on approval for environmental release of genetically modified (GM) mustard crop, the Supreme Court has on Tuesday directed the Centre to formulate a national policy with regard to GM crops for research, cultivation, trade and commerce in the country. A bench of Justices B V Nagarathna and Sanjay Karol differed on the contentious decision of October 18, 2022, when the Genetic Engineering Appraisal Committee (GEAC) — a statutory body under the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change (MoEF&CC) and regulator of genetically modified organisms in the country recommended the environmental release. What are nature based solutions? Using living organisms such as plants, animals and microorganisms (biology), instead of chemicals (chemistry) or machines (physics) for solving the problems of man, are nature based solutions (NbS). How to develop NbS? 1. Rating and ranking of plant, animal and microorganism species on the basis of their capacity to provide various ecosystem services (provisioning, regulating and cultural) 2. Breeding the top rated plants, animals and microorganisms for improving their efficiency. Example of NbS Polyculture (biodiversity based agriculture) is a nature based solution in agriculture to solve the problems of climate change, biodiversity loss, pollution, soil erosion, soil degradation, desertification, genetic erosion, groundwater depletion, eutrophication, pest, disease, weed, hunger, malnutrition, food waste, farmers indebtedness, poverty, unemployment and many other problems.

I'm excited to announce the publication of my 15th article in the Journal of Agricultural Science and Technology, which holds an NAAS rating of 7.20. The article, titled "From Waste to Utilization: Assessing the Feasibility of Using Post-Mushroom Substrate and Other Agro-Wastes for the Mass Production of Entomopathogenic Fungi," explores innovative methods for utilizing agro-wastes, including Post-Mushroom Substrate (PMS), for large-scale production of entomopathogenic fungi.
