#SupplyChains have been a primary topic of discussion over the last few years, in food, feed, agricultural supplies, and many other goods. As we move into the period of the new mandate, fair and well-functioning supply chains are core to the European Commission and are identified as a priority of the main political parties. ⬇ With that in mind, it was a productive opening of the new EU Agri-Food Chain Observatory today, organised by DG AGRI with an opening speech from Janusz Wojciechowski. The Observatory seeks to exchange information, expertise, and increase transparency across the entire food system, involving all actors from farmers to retailers. COCERAL looks forward to actively participate in this dialogue!

🇪🇺 Building the Future of European Agri-Food Systems 🚜🌱 The European Commission has launched the European Board on Agriculture and Food, a high-level initiative to shape the future of agriculture and food systems across Europe. Chaired by Commissioner Christophe Hansen, the Board aims to foster dialogue and collaboration among key stakeholders - farmers, food supply chain representatives, and civil society - offering strategic input for creating a resilient, sustainable, and competitive agri-food system as part of the European Vision for Agriculture and Food. Key Highlights of the European Board on Agriculture and Food: ✅ Strategic Advice: Offers high-level guidance to shape EU policies on agriculture and food. ✅ Diverse Membership: Open to up to 30 organisations, ensuring balanced representation from farmers, the food industry, and civil society. ✅ Collaborative Dialogue: Promotes synergy between Union policies and private sector initiatives through member exchange. 💡 Interested organisations can apply to join the Board until 8 January 2025!

🐄 🌾 New EU Agri-Food Chain Observatory: Aiming for Fairer Farm Prices 🌾 🐄 The European Commission has launched the EU Agri-Food Chain Observatory to tackle concerns about low farm prices and unfair pay for farmers. This initiative aims to improve transparency and better share value in the food supply chain. Key Points: 🔹 The observatory includes 48 members from the food supply chain and national authorities. 🔹 EU Commissioner for Agriculture Janusz Wojciechowski said this move addresses the lack of trust in the food supply chain. 🔹 Measures include ensuring fair pay for farmers, making food prices clearer, and enforcing rules against unfair trading practices (UTPs). Economists warn that there isn't a simple solution to the issue of low farm prices. Prof. Jack Peerlings from Wageningen University explains that the agricultural market often forces farmers to accept low prices because there are many suppliers and high demand. Prof. José María García Alvarez-Coque from Universitat Politècnica de València highlights the need for farmers to join larger cooperatives to gain more negotiating power. On December 12, 2024, the LOCAL UKRAINE 2.0 forum will take place in Kyiv 🌱 👆 The event aims to establish trilateral cooperation between producers, businesses, and authorities to support local entrepreneurs, farmers, and agricultural product manufacturers in scaling their businesses and entering the European market. The event will bring together agricultural product producers, livestock farmers, those seeking to adapt their processes to European standards, craft enterprise owners intending to create unique brands, and producers interested in partnerships. ✓Participants can communicate with leading industry experts, learn about state business support programs, and receive practical tools for production development and strategies for entering the European market.
