Around 2.5 billion tonnes of #food grown is #wasted each year, with around 1.2 billion tonnes of #food #lost on farms alone during, around and after harvest. This level of inefficiency has significant environmental and social impacts such as increasing food insecurity and water use. Furthermore, emissions associated with #foodlossandwaste (FLW) are estimated to account for approximately 8-10% of global greenhouse gas emissions. SDGs 2 and 12; specifically, SDG12.3 aims to halve FLW globally by 2030. WBA’s Food and Agriculture Benchmark research shows that the average score of companies on the #FoodLossandWaste (FLW) indicator is 0.14 out of 1 😌. Reducing FLW is a powerful way to improve food systems and critical to delivering on the Paris Agreement and the Global Methane Pledge. Join our session on 30 July to launch the #CollectiveImpactCoalition (CIC) which is a time-bound coalition of global multi-stakeholders who have influence over companies. Learn and contribute to how CIC members can take coordinated actions to incentivise key companies to improve their performance on Food Loss and Waste. Register here: https://lnkd.in/ei8f64y9
On Tuesday, 30 July, we will launch our Collective Impact Coalition (CIC) on Food Loss and Waste with a group of multi-stakeholders who can influence companies to improve their performance on Food Loss and Waste by setting targets aligned with the SDG 12.3 agenda and measuring progress against it. CIC members take coordinated actions to incentivise key companies to improve their performance on Food Loss and Waste, and progress is measured over time using WBA’s Food and Agriculture Benchmark and annual progress reports. As the convenor for this coalition, we aim to co-create an action plan with CIC members. The event will feature a presentation of the CIC on Food Loss and Waste followed by a Q&A session with the participants. We will be hosting two virtual sessions for the launch event and you can register for any of the sessions here: https://lnkd.in/etbQAeaE

Our 2024 annual report is here! We're excited to share that we've helped over 40,000 small farmers and workers in food and agriculture businesses. This wouldn't have been possible without working hand-in-hand with local communities. The report dives into projects we ran in five countries, helping farmers improve the quality of their food, find better markets to sell their crops, and work together to export their products. Here's what we've achieved: • Research collaboration: We're working with researchers and food industry players in 6 countries to identify innovative solutions for agrifood supply chains. • Knowledge generation: In 2023 alone, we produced 39 valuable resources, designed 23 innovations, and held 11 capacity-building activities. • Piloting innovations: Together with local partners, we've launched pilot tests of these innovations in 7 value chains across 5 countries. A great article in the The Australian highlighting the strategies to strengthen the nation’s position as a food powerhouse. Australia’s food sector stands at a key juncture, as revealed by the Australian Food and Agriculture Industry Taskforce, which includes Cultiv8 Funds Management Partner, Jonathon Quigley. The taskforce of business leaders have identified pressing issues impacting the industry’s sustainability. Key challenges relate to: • Input costs • Labour shortages • Supply chain disruptions • Regulatory burdens These factors are squeezing margins across the entire food supply chain, from farm to table, resulting in higher food prices for consumers. The taskforce advocates for: • Regulatory streamlining • Increased investment in technology and innovation • Infrastructure improvements • Strategic solutions to workforce shortages. While the sector faces hurdles, we see tremendous potential for growth and innovation in Australian agriculture. Collaborative action between industry and government to coordinate efforts is essential to capitalise on these opportunities, ensuring a robust and competitive future for Australia’s food industry.
