Honoured to be invited to speak in Parliament again about knife crime. We often blame and praise point fingers when discussing the rise in violence, but this overlooks the systemic issues at play. Other nations, even those with high population densities, have successfully managed knife crime by treating it as a public health issue with notable decreases in violence as a result. Just as we use medication to prevent illness, we must adopt a preventive approach to violence. It's time to ask why our government waits to act until after violence occurs rather than funding preventative measures, which starts in homes and policy changes in schools We need to shift the narrative—treating knife crime not just as a street issue but as a public health crisis. Through preventative measures, it can implement education, mental health support, and community initiatives to safeguard our young people
