Honoured to be invited to speak in Parliament again about knife crime. We often blame and praise point fingers when discussing the rise in violence, but this overlooks the systemic issues at play. Other nations, even those with high population densities, have successfully managed knife crime by treating it as a public health issue with notable decreases in violence as a result. It's time to ask why our government waits to act until after violence occurs rather than funding preventative measures, which starts in homes and policy changes in schools We need to shift the narrative—treating knife crime not just as a street issue but as a public health crisis. Through preventative measures, it can implement education, mental health support, and community initiatives to safeguard our young people

The pandemic has taken a particularly heavy toll on the #physical and #mental health of elderly and young people. To better respond to their needs, the Federal Council has adopted two reports outlining lessons for improving the #management of pandemics and other future crises. Regarding the #elderly and residents of nursing homes, individual freedom and self-determination in particular need to be taken into account more fully, so that differentiated measures can be put in place. As far as #young people and people living alone are concerned, the Federal Council attaches particular importance to early intervention, accessible support services, the protection of mental health in education and training, and the enhancement of digital skills to reduce the harmful effects of digital content.
