Attending the Mayor’s Annual Address at the Leaders Lunch hosted by the Abbotsford Chamber of Commerce last week was a powerful reminder of why Abbotsford is such an incredible community—generous, resilient, and deeply connected. But the need in our community is growing. In the "lock down" year of 2020, Archway Food Bank served 2,403 families and 4,714 individuals. For 2023, those numbers have soared to 3,893 families and 9,198 individuals, with over 5,000 individuals each month in 2023. The number of charitable organizations has risen too, from 278 in 2021 to 311 in 2023 and 37% more employees involved. This highlights the increasing efforts to meet these needs as a community but it's not enough to make life affordable. Nor is a publicity stunt of cutting GST on Christmas trees sufficient. I find it inspiring to see how Mountain View Printing & Graphics Ltd. has been quietly making a difference in our community by supporting organisations like Inn from the Cold, Calgary Food Bank, Calgary Humane Society, and Kingdom Coffee to name a few... How do other businesses out there integrate giving back into their business models? Whether it's through charitable donations, volunteering, or other forms of support, I'd love to hear about the creative ways companies are making a positive impact. #Question: As a small business, what unique approaches do you take to give back to your community, and how do you balance this with the demands of running your business? Is this something even on your radar? #yyc #GivingBack #CommunityImpact #SmallBusiness #CorporateResponsibility
If you could read the thought bubble over my head… This is what I’m thinking today: Behind the busy scenes—the crazy pace of our print business—nobody knows about the ways in which we support our local community. For years, we have been donating to and supporting local charitable organizations like: Inn from the Cold, Calgary Food Bank, Calgary Humane Society and Kingdom Coffee. As a small business owner, we can only do this if we’re successful. We can help make a difference because we have the capacity (and the compassion). It’s the other side nobody sees. If you’re a small business owner, how do you do it? #MVP #MVPrinters #MountainViewPrinting #Calgary #Alberta #GivingBack #Community

Last week, we shared information on a Spendthrift Trust. This week, we are looking at a Family Advancement Sustainability Trust (FAST). As you plan for future generations, consider preparing your heirs to manage wealth responsibly, promoting family values, or encouraging charitable giving. A FAST can be a valuable tool in achieving these objectives. https://hubs.la/Q02SLxKV0

Last week, our MD, Pete Evans had a great conversation with Mike Quate and Rachel Smith about One for the City. One for the City lets businesses commit either 1% of their revenue or profit to charities in Leeds. The organisation is inspired by 1% for the planet but focuses on Leeds. It also helps address the the growing gap between the business economy and the people suffering hardship in Leeds because of their socio-economic circumstances. Business isn't just about making money and whilst our MD, Pete Evans is from the other side of the Pennines, it is great to be giving back to the city where the business is now based. The manifesto of One for the City is:- 1) Champion business to become a force for good which benefits wider society and the environment 2) Create a community of businesses committed to growing a more inclusive economy 3) Increase collective giving to charitable and social causes in the city 4) Provide a platform for which businesses can centrally contribute their financial donations 5) Illustrate the impact made businesses supporting the 1% model If you are interested in knowing more then reach out directly to Mike Quate

Well, the revised Gatsby Charitable Foundation Benchmarks are out and I have to say they leave a lot of questions about how FE/ITP’s are going to manage them. Particularly, if we are to take the wording literally in accordance with @thecdi & The Careers & Enterprise Company definitions of ‘personal guidance’ and ‘qualified adviser’. Lets see if we get some guidance on how those marks can be met in a massively underfunded and under resourced sector?
