🌱 The Urgent Push Towards Climate Action: Europe's New Measures Against Carbon Emissions 🌍 As the world continues to rely heavily on fossil fuels, the European Union is accelerating its climate action by introducing the Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism (CBAM). Starting January 2026, this groundbreaking carbon tax will level the playing field between imports and domestic products by imposing levies on high-emission industries. 2023 global CO2 levels rose by 1.1% despite ongoing efforts to mitigate climate change, highlighting the need for more stringent measures. The EU's CBAM represents a crucial step in addressing these challenges and promoting eco-friendly alternatives. @TransparenTerra and our expert, Milos Tipsarevic https://lnkd.in/ey4SBSJG, are here to help companies navigate these new regulations. With our climate risk management expertise and carbon calculators, businesses can accurately assess emissions, estimate financial impacts, and prepare for CBAM's full implementation. Partner with us to ensure compliance and avoid double taxation. Happy Friday 🎉 With 1 billion tonnes of greenhouse gasses produced annually, shipping is a major polluter, but a global emissions levy could change that. 💡A fair price on shipping emissions would not only drive investment in clean energy but also generate up to $3.7 trillion by 2050 to help vulnerable nations build climate resilience. As the IMO prepares to negotiate this levy, it's crucial for African countries to have their voices heard. 🌍 💬Stay tuned for our next discussion on why this is a matter of justice and fairness. #ClimateAction #SustainableShipping #IMO #JustTransition #GlobalTrade #ShippingLevy #ClimateFinance #AfricanClimateStories

EU greenhouse gas emissions fell by 8.3% in 2023 The EU reports the largest annual drop in greenhouse gas emissions in decades. Finally some news that give me hope. We saw a similar decline during Covid, which had me cautious. But this is a real glimmer of hope that economic growth and climate action are not strictly mutually exclusive. However, the road ahead remains long and tricky. Especially, my field, the built environment, has still a lot of homework to do. #BuiltEnvironment #GreenTransition #EUGreenDeal https://lnkd.in/e9__ANeW

In the face of daunting challenges in achieving current climate goals, the Biden administration has set a new, even more ambitious target. The administration aims for a substantial 61%-66% reduction in greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions from 2005 levels by 2035, surpassing the previous goal of 50%-52% [which the country likely is not going to meet...]. This commitment is part of the United States' updated nationally determined contribution (NDC) to the Paris Agreement. The task ahead is formidable, especially amidst uncertainties surrounding future federal climate policies. Presently, a significant portion of the US's approximately 17% decrease in GHG emissions from 2005 levels stems from the power sector. However, meeting the heightened targets necessitates a significant acceleration in emission reduction efforts across all sectors. Achieving these objectives is crucial for addressing the climate crisis! #ClimateAction #EnvironmentalGoals

This show accidentally described one of the biggest problem of climate (in)action: “I 100% believe in climate change, yet I am willing to do absolutely nothing about it.” is a sentence that - despite sounding totally ridiculous - summarizes the situation pretty accurately According to Eurobarometer, 77% of EU citizens think climate change is a very serious problem. Yet the emissions of greenhouse gasses are still on the rise, so clearly we are not doing nearly enough. But listen to the video further. Why are we not acting? “I think it's because they keep telling us we are going to lose everything. But nobody cares about everything. People only care about some things.” What would that mean for an average Dutch person? How do we make this personal? Should we talk about the positives of creating a better world for ourselves or about what we stand to lose personally, or both? Jens van der Weele Frank Holleman Babette Porcelijn each of you has a different and unique perspective that I respect, curious to hear what you think! #climateaction #sustainability #climatecommunication

What is the 'Safeguard Mechanism'- a Government policy to task Australia's largest greenhouse gas emitters to be accountable? This policy targets industrial facilities emitting over 100,000 tons of carbon dioxide equivalent (CO2-e) annually, aiming for a 43% reduction below 2005 levels by 2030 and reaching net zero by 2050. However, recent approvals for new coal mines raise significant concerns about the effectiveness of these measures. 🌍 Strengthening climate policies is essential for a sustainable future.
