Happy Friday 🎉 With 1 billion tonnes of greenhouse gasses produced annually, shipping is a major polluter, but a global emissions levy could change that. 💡A fair price on shipping emissions would not only drive investment in clean energy but also generate up to $3.7 trillion by 2050 to help vulnerable nations build climate resilience. As the IMO prepares to negotiate this levy, it's crucial for African countries to have their voices heard. 🌍 💬Stay tuned for our next discussion on why this is a matter of justice and fairness. #ClimateAction #SustainableShipping #IMO #JustTransition #GlobalTrade #ShippingLevy #ClimateFinance #AfricanClimateStories

🌱 The Urgent Push Towards Climate Action: Europe's New Measures Against Carbon Emissions 🌍 As the world continues to rely heavily on fossil fuels, the European Union is accelerating its climate action by introducing the Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism (CBAM). Starting January 2026, this groundbreaking carbon tax will level the playing field between imports and domestic products by imposing levies on high-emission industries. 2023 global CO2 levels rose by 1.1% despite ongoing efforts to mitigate climate change, highlighting the need for more stringent measures. The EU's CBAM represents a crucial step in addressing these challenges and promoting eco-friendly alternatives. @TransparenTerra and our expert, Milos Tipsarevic https://lnkd.in/ey4SBSJG, are here to help companies navigate these new regulations. With our climate risk management expertise and carbon calculators, businesses can accurately assess emissions, estimate financial impacts, and prepare for CBAM's full implementation. Partner with us to ensure compliance and avoid double taxation. There is growing optimism in China‘s green transition at a time when it is being asked to take the lead on global climate action as nearly half of experts polled by a climate think tank say the country’s carbon dioxide emissions have already peaked or will do so in 2025. In a survey released Tuesday by the research group Centre for Research on Energy and Clean Air (CREA), 44% of academic and industrial climate experts predict that China’s CO2 emissions will peak no later than 2025. Just 21% of experts responded in the same way in the study conducted last year. #ChinaGreenTransition #ClimateAction #CarbonEmissions #CO2Peak #GlobalClimateLeadership #ClimateOptimism #CleanEnergy #Sustainability #CarbonNeutral #GreenFuture #climatechangeisreal Read on - https://lnkd.in/gMjfGVE7

MEDIA RELEASE: New evidence shows there are too many units in the NZ ETS for the Government to make best use of it to reduce emissions – presenting a high risk that emissions budgets won't be achieved. To address this risk, the Climate Change Commission's latest report advises the Government to reduce NZ ETS auction volumes as soon as possible, says Commission chair Dr Rod Carr. https://lnkd.in/ghDrGt6w #ClimateChange #EmissionsTrading #NZETS

In the face of daunting challenges in achieving current climate goals, the Biden administration has set a new, even more ambitious target. The administration aims for a substantial 61%-66% reduction in greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions from 2005 levels by 2035, surpassing the previous goal of 50%-52% [which the country likely is not going to meet...]. This commitment is part of the United States' updated nationally determined contribution (NDC) to the Paris Agreement. The task ahead is formidable, especially amidst uncertainties surrounding future federal climate policies. Presently, a significant portion of the US's approximately 17% decrease in GHG emissions from 2005 levels stems from the power sector. However, meeting the heightened targets necessitates a significant acceleration in emission reduction efforts across all sectors. Achieving these objectives is crucial for addressing the climate crisis! #ClimateAction #EnvironmentalGoals

The Climate Change Commission has released their advice for on updating NZ ETS unit limits and price control settings for the next five years. "New evidence shows there are too many units in the NZ ETS for the Government to make best use of it to reduce emissions. This excess number of units presents a high risk that #emissions budgets won't be achieved. To address this risk, the Commission advises the Government to reduce NZ ETS auction volumes as soon as possible, Dr Rod Carr says." EU greenhouse gas emissions fell by 8.3% in 2023 The EU reports the largest annual drop in greenhouse gas emissions in decades. Finally some news that give me hope. We saw a similar decline during Covid, which had me cautious. But this is a real glimmer of hope that economic growth and climate action are not strictly mutually exclusive. However, the road ahead remains long and tricky. Especially, my field, the built environment, has still a lot of homework to do. #BuiltEnvironment #GreenTransition #EUGreenDeal https://lnkd.in/e9__ANeW
