🦃✨ Heading home for the holidays? It’s a perfect time to have those important, often-overlooked conversations about estate planning with your family. Discussing these topics now can bring clarity, strengthen family bonds, and ensure everyone’s wishes are understood. Here’s how to get started: 1️⃣ Approach the Topic Gently: Begin with a general question to ease into the conversation. Simple prompts can open the door without making anyone feel pressured. 2️⃣ Share Your Own Experience: Normalize estate planning by sharing your process—this helps others see it as a practical step rather than a daunting one. 3️⃣ Highlight Key Decisions: Discuss the importance of choosing decision-makers and outlining preferences, even if you avoid specifics for now. 4️⃣ Set Goals for the Future: If it goes well, suggest a follow-up to revisit the conversation in a more formal setting. Perhaps you are doing more than what is necessary. Think back to when you were a kid learning about subtraction. But as adults, we seem to have forgotten that simplicity and constantly add more to our already overflowing plates. But what is subtraction that we are talking about? Imagine planning a family vacation. Instead of trying to cram every moment with activities, you decide to subtract unnecessary items from the itinerary. Suddenly, there's room to breathe, to explore, to connect authentically. It's like taking a trip back to the essence of what a vacation should be. And it's not just vacations. In parenting, subtracting micromanagement and helicopter tendencies can lead to more independent and resilient children. At work, simplifying tasks rather than endlessly piling on can lead to a clearer mind and better productivity. When we make decisions, we have to give up something in exchange. By using subtraction, we can confront this reality and make better choices. By asking ourselves what we would give up, we can identify what really matters and gain insight into what we truly want. Subtraction means simplifying and decluttering our lives and prioritizing what is important to us. Sometimes, we need to have less in order to have more. If you feel overwhelmed, remember the power of subtraction to help you focus on what truly matters.

Vacation. This time of year hosts a lot of it. It's my turn this week with some of my kids and grandkids. Vacation is time we set apart to see a different view of the world. One less hurried. One less scheduled. So that when we return to the pace of life, we are recharged, refreshed and ready to step boldly back into doing the things that matter. So my question is - why wait for vacation to do this? What do you do weekly to get recharged from a 24-7 world that never really lets us catch our breath? How do you regularly disconnect in a meaningful way to be able to focus on the important things about yourself so you can ensure you are aligned to where you want and need to be - career, family, relationships, health, finances. Stepping away to step back stronger is a healthy approach to a busy life. Consider yourself valuable enough and worth the time and effort. #readyforlife #vacation #recharge #disconnect #alignment #careers #life

In the latest episode of Family Thyme Media, we examined Mom and Dad's differing approaches to vacation planning: Mom meticulously researches for the ultimate experience, while Dad prioritizes simplicity. Reflecting Barry Schwartz’s Maximiser-Satisficer theory, this contrast highlights the challenges of seeking the best choice versus opting for satisfactory decisions. We draw parallels to investment strategies, emphasizing the importance of aligning objectives and preferences. Whether aiming for short-term stability or long-term goals like education, Arysteq offers tailored solutions to navigate financial complexities, letting you focus on what truly matters. #FamilyThyme #MoneyMatters #Investmentdecisions #ArysteqAssetManagement #Namibian #Homegrown #PunchAboveYourWeight To read the full article please click on the link below: https://lnkd.in/dtT4vzSB

Want some enduring wisdom? Take a vacation. Kind of obvious, I know. But many, myself included, have a hard time with that one. “Things will slow down next week” is our creed. But they never slow down. You have to force yourself to leave - break out of your routines. You have to put it on the calendar like an appointment. Every time I take flight for a few days, I come home with new perspectives on things and that helps me in so many ways. Unfortunately, I come back more critical of myself too. -You picked the wrong place to live -Your aim was off -Your ideas were too small… …a dozen ways you could have done better. It’s a battle cry of the self-aware. A critique you have to shut down before it gets out of hand. It’s not totally unproductive though. In that process you also get a chance to evaluate the things you’ve done right too - the ideas that, fortunately, WERE over the target and were big enough to endure. Like when it comes to investing; have a plan and stick to it. Focus on the long term. Tilt your holdings towards small and value stocks, diversify globally, watch expenses. Have faith in and invest in capitalism. If I’m making a list of all the things that have gone right, THOSE ideas were were at the top. They worked and they worked very well. There were so many other paths I could have taken with my client’s money. So, maybe I missed the mark a little in my own life. But the people I work for? Thank God I didn’t miss the mark for them.
