„…North Asia spot LNG prices extended declines, trading in the $9/mmbtu range, as Japanese importers looked to resell shipments, adding more supply to the market. Japan’s utilities are facing high inventories and limited demand at home, reducing the need to take all contracted cargoes, traders said. Thailand’s state-run energy company PTT purchased three LNG cargoes on a DES basis for Feb.-March delivery in the low-$9/mmbtu range. Oman LNG offered to sell a cargo on an FOB basis for Feb. 14-16 loading. Gail seeks to purchase two LNG cargoes/month on a DES basis for Jan.-Dec. 2026 delivery to the Dabhol and Dhamra terminals in India. As part of the swap, Gail offers to sell two LNG cargoes/month on an FOB basis from Sabine Pass export plant in the US. Gail seeks to purchase an LNG cargo on a DES basis for Feb. delivery. Drivers: PetroChina Co., the country’s biggest oil and gas supplier, resold more seaborne gas cargoes last year to buyers in Europe and Asia last year, fueling a record-breaking profit from trading, according to the company’s newsletter on Thursday. Re-exports of LNG climbed 24% from a year earlier as the company sourced more cargoes on flexible terms from the US; it has also firmed up its foothold in Europe with a new terminal lease in the Netherlands from 2026. European gas storage was 77% full on Jan. 17, compared with the 5-year seasonal average of 66%. Estimated gas flows to US LNG export terminals -30% w/w at 10.4 bcf/day on Thursday, according to BNEF. Japan should push forward with its nuclear reactor restarts in order to curb its use of Russian liquefied natural gas, US Ambassador to Japan Rahm Emanuel said in an interview. US will increase LNG shipments to Japan thanks to already contracted supplies: Emanuel.“

China #LNG #imports expected to decline despite hiking #demand China's LNG consumption showed an uptrend during the summer demand peak, driven by growing demand from the power generation and transportation sectors. However, the LNG imports are expected to decline, according to OilChem. Starting from H2 May, the Northeast Asian spot LNG prices climbed higher due to increasing procurements for the high temperatures, which opened the LNG arbitrage in China. As of June 12, the difference between China imported LNG prices and the Northeast Asia futures prices reached Yuan 257/t. In this case, China's upstream enterprises, led by CNOOC and PetroChina, increased their re-export of cargoes for July-August deliveries, which will cause a further reduction in LNG imports and an increase in prices. Russian LNG exports reach 2024 peak in October According to Kommersant, Russian LNG producers exported 3.06 million metric tons of liquefied natural gas in October, marking a record high for 2024. In the first nine months of this year, LNG exports increased by 4.65%, totaling 27.4 million metric tons. By October, LNG facilities had completed scheduled maintenance, returning to full production capacity. The majority of LNG shipments continued to Asia along the Northern Sea Route during the navigation season, while Belgium, one of Yamal LNG’s largest buyers, resumed purchases after a two-month hiatus. The government projected an increase in LNG exports for 2024, forecasting a rise from 32.3 million metric tons in 2023 to 38 million metric tons, primarily due to the launch of the first line at Arctic LNG 2, with other facilities already operating at full capacity. However, this forecast was revised down to 35.2 million metric tons following the latest U.S. sanctions targeting the project earlier this year. October's increase in Russian LNG exports was largely driven by seasonal factors, as consumption rose with the onset of the heating season, according to Ivan Timonin at Implementa. He noted that LNG exports have surged since early 2024 due to the suspension of scheduled maintenance at two major lines of Yamal LNG and Sakhalin 2 in 2023. "This year, the operation of Sakhalin 2 was suspended for a relatively brief period, which contributed to the increase in exports," Timonin stated. He anticipates that Russian LNG exports will total approximately 32.5 million metric tons for the entirety of 2024. #business #finance #financialservices

Europe’s LNG imports jump in November on increased cargo diversions from the US. European #LNG imports surged in November to their highest level since April, rising 19% month-on-month to 8.96 million tonnes, according to Kpler data. Non-EU countries, including the UK and Turkey, drove the increase, with combined imports jumping to 1.8 million tonnes from 0.65 million tonnes in October. This growth was driven by increased cargo diversions from Asia to #Europe, following a mid-November spike in TTF gas prices after Gazprom halted pipeline gas supplies to Austria’s OMV. A total of 31 cargoes were diverted, Kpler data show, of which 24 cargoes originated from the US, pushing US exports to Europe up by 33% to 4.17 million tonnes—the highest volume since February, when shipments reached 5.16 million tonnes. US complicates Europe’s attempts to give up Russian gas — Business Insider European countries are importing less Russian fuel than earlier but nevertheless cannot reject it in full, the news outlet said NEW YORK, August 2/ The United States is reducing volumes of natural gas supplies to Europe and prevent it from rejecting the fuel from Russia, the Business Insider news portal said. European countries are importing less Russian fuel than earlier but nevertheless cannot reject it in full, the news outlet said. The United States more and often redirects liquefied natural gas (LNG) exports from Europe to Asia, where the price of this commodity is higher than in Europe. According to the report of the Gas Exporting Countries Forum (GECF) released in mid-July, LNG supplies to Europe plunged by 20% to 7.4 mln metric tons - this is the lowest figure since October 2021. The decline of LNG exports to Europe was driven by lower gas demand, storages being filled, greater pipeline imports and a significant premium in the gas price in Asia. LNG imports by Asian countries gained 8.2% to 22.36 mln metric tons, according to the report. Europe imported 54.6 mln tons in total in the first half of 2024, while Asian imports added 10% to 141.6 mln metric tons. #business #finance #financialservices

🛢️China’s Oil, Gas, and Coal Import Dependency🛢️ “China depends on imports for 72 percent of its oil consumption, and the overwhelming majority of China’s oil imports must pass through maritime chokepoints over which the United States has significant influence. "To mitigate its vulnerabilities, China’s government has invested billions of dollars in overland pipelines, launched a national tanker fleet it can direct to sail through conflict zones and potentially run blockades, and begun building out its capabilities for long-range power projection.” --2022 Annual Report to Congress
