An important report for policy makers working to elimate poverty. The 'Below Average Resources ' may prove to be a particularly useful way of measuring poverty. The findings of the report suggest that the UK Government and local Mayor's qneed to be ambitious in terms of policies and interventions if we are to shift the dial in terms of the number of people in poverty. The findings also suggest that current interventions, whilst they may alleviate immediate need, are not effective in lifting people out of poverty. This is a complex issue and I am reminded of the phase, ' multiple levers, all pulling together in the same direction, in the right time and in the right order'.
Rate of poverty in the UK is now higher than at any point in the 21st Century... 16 million people in the UK are living in poverty, that's 24% of the population including 5.2 million children, 9.2 million working-age adults and 1.5 million pension-age adults #CashFirst https://lnkd.in/eX9fNfJK

50 years after the Henderson Poverty Inquiry, we still lack an agreed national definition of poverty and a consistent way to measure and track it. We are proud to be a part of a new collaboration with researchers from the University of Melbourne to change that. This project aims to provide a clearer picture of poverty in Australia, helping to inform better policies and programs. By working together, we can better understand the challenges people face and create more effective solutions to support those in need. https://lnkd.in/gCwrfwZz
