It felt a bit like coming home, as I joined this year's "CeNS meets Industry" event taking place at the Center for NanoScience, LMU Munich (CeNS) on July, 12th - coincidentally precisely eight years after my PhD defense at the same location. Thank you very much to CeNS for inviting me. On the one hand, it was a privilege to present on behalf of BioNTech SE, focusing on the strategic importance of data. On the other hand, it was a real pleasure to meet former colleagues and friends, who have either continued their careers in academia or, in the meantime, have transitioned to diverse industry sectors. I was particularly impressed by diverse nanoscientific innovations, including "μKiss" (CeNS nano innovation award 2024, Cornelia Holler), "DNA nanoshells for virus trapping" (CeNS nano innovation award 2021, Christian Sigl), and a few more. Looking forward to staying in close exchange on innovations and potential applications in biotech and pharma!

I am so excited to learning more about these technologies!
Nikolas Sandstrom, Ph.D. (KTH Royal Institute of Technology), is one of the invited speakers that will be featured at September's #Microscale Innovation in Life Sciences Symposium. His presentation, Microscale Well Arrays: A Window into Single-cell Dynamics, will round out the the Miniaturization for Screening Applications session which will focus on micro-compartmentalization techniques that apply microfluidics and pico/nano-scale platforms to better enable drug discovery efforts on a smaller scale. There's still time to reserve your spot in next month's symposium at the AstraZeneca Discovery Centre. https://lnkd.in/eY9vRdWE

Illumina proudly announces the MiSeq i100! As the Optics Illumination Lead, I've been privileged to guide a diverse team of multi-disciplinary engineers, designing & developing the module from concept to product (it's inside the instrument, trust me lol). This program spanned the globe, across many timezones, all dedicated to creating this simple, accessible, and powerful sequencer. Since jumping into this project in 2020, there has been countless hours dedicated to ensuring its success. Despite the challenges of the pandemic, we've overcome obstacles and achieved significant milestones. With all the unknowns of how life will be during the early phase of the pandemic, I had many days & nights designing and simulating models, while breadboarding in the lab during the shutdowns. From not knowing what the future holds, to seeing everything come together during the prototype phases as we worked through the challenges, it's been a remarkable journey. The MiSeq i100 in general is a testament to our team's innovation and commitment. This low-throughput sequencer will democratize access to next-generation sequencing, enabling researchers to tackle critical questions in human health. With applications in cancer, pathogen, and viral research, the MiSeq i100 has the potential to revolutionize biotech and life sciences. #biotech #dnasequencing #genomics #lifescience #illumina

AI is making huge waves across all industries, and life sciences are no exception. But AI is a tool that is hungry for high dimensional data sets. High throughput technologies have been critical in allowing us to generate data in biology, but there are major bottlenecks if we want to create those data sets with patient derived cells. We need better tools! Join me at #SLAS2024, where I'll share how DropGenie is enabling discovery at the single patient resolution. I'll cover the most recent module we've built for #functionalgenomics and scientists that want to improve biological relevance earlier in drug discovery. Our solution leverages miniaturization and parallelization in modules that can seamlessly plug into automation ecosystems. It's at the end of the day, but I promise it's worth waiting for :) Date: Monday February 5th, 4:30-5:00pm Track: Assay Development and Screening,Session: (107) Room: 205ABC
Delighted to announce that our team will be presenting not one, not two, but THREE groundbreaking scientific talks at #SLAS2024 next week! 🎙️🔬 Join us to learn how we use miniaturization and parallelization to: 1️⃣ accelerate functional genomics for drug discovery - on Feb 5th with Alison Hirukawa, PhD [Session 107: Room 205ABC] 💊 2️⃣ build the next generation of CAR-T therapies -on Feb 6th with Miti Patel [Exhibition Hall, Ignite Stage] 👩🏾⚕️ 3️⃣ seamlessly integrate into existing lab automation ecosystems- on Feb 6th with Hugo Sinha [Exhibition Hall, Solutions Spotlight Theater] 🤖 📆 Save the dates!

🌟 Exciting Research Collaboration Alert! 🌟 We are glad to announce that Simão Santos from Lammertyn lab ( Department of Biosystems ) started a 3-month research stay at the Interfibio group under the supervision of Dr. Ciara O' Sullivan and Dr. Vasoula Skouridou. During this period, Simão will be working on groundbreaking projects to develop RPA assays and nucleic acid-based lateral flow assays (NALFA) aimed at detecting female-specific genes in allantoic fluid. His work will focus on: 🔬 Optimizing RPA reaction parameters 🔬Designing tailed primers for NALFA 🔬 Refining the assay to work with minimal sample and buffer volumes Once fully developed, the NALFA will “suit like a glove” the SIMPLE microfluidic chip Simão has been developing during his PhD, paving the way for a fully autonomous microfluidic platform for in ovo sexing. We are excited to see the innovative advancements that will come from this collaboration. Best of luck, Simão! 🚀 #Research #Innovation #Collaboration #Microfluidics #Biotechnology #InOvoSexing
