“A growing body of evidence underscores the impacts associated with decades of underinvestment in children’s health. As a wealthy nation, Canada has all the resources necessary to meaningfully and measurably improve children’s health and wellbeing, but what will it take? And, where should we prioritize investments to yield greatest impact? “ – Children’s Healthcare Canada. This week, Angelo Mikrogianakis, Chair of the Department of Pediatrics at McMaster University and Chief of Pediatrics at McMaster Children’s Hospital joined child health leaders from across the country to discuss solutions. Among the recommendations, they’re calling on the Federal government to: - Create and implement a National Children’s Strategy that includes targets and timelines to improve children’s health outcomes. - Establish a Chief Children’s Health Officer. - Create a dedicated and earmarked funding envelope to ensure a robust maternal, child, and youth health research agenda.
