HAPPY HEALTHCARE SIMULATION WEEK! I was recently asked to organize and facilitate a simulation workshop for the nurses at Asian Hospital and Medical Center on Malignant Hyperthermia. So, I created a modified version of the AORN Simulation Scenario on Malignant Hyperthermia. The objectives were to facilitate communication among nurses including other perioperative team members like anesthesiologists, surgeons and pharmacists, to educate nurses on the correct preparation and administration of dantrolene, and to address any additional crisis-related issues. I was surprised to find out that for the nurses, it was their first exposure to simulation throughout their education and training years. But I appreciated how they were really immersed in the simulation and acted like it was the real deal! Moreover, we had a highly productive debriefing session. Everyone expressed gratitude and loved the innovative approach to adult learning! This, in my opinion, is the best way to celebrate Healthcare Simulation Week. This week will particularly intense. Fight CLI, treat varicose veins and probably stop bleedings or deal with ALI… the daily affairs of the vascular surgeon but also I will be part of the **CCriSP** (Course for Critically Ill Surgical Patients) program organized by the **Royal College of Surgeons of England** (RCSE), taking place at **SSMC** on the **10th and 11th October**. This is my first time participating as faculty, and I couldn’t be more excited! CCriSP is designed to equip healthcare professionals, particularly surgeons and surgical trainees, with the essential skills and knowledge to manage critically ill surgical patients effectively. The course emphasizes key aspects such as: - **Assessment and Management**: Learning to assess and manage critically ill surgical patients, understanding the physiological changes they undergo. - **Advanced Resuscitation Techniques**: Gaining insights into advanced techniques for resuscitation in emergency situations. - **Surgical Decision-Making**: Enhancing decision-making skills in high-pressure scenarios, ensuring optimal patient outcomes. - **Multidisciplinary Collaboration**: Fostering teamwork among healthcare professionals, including surgeons, anesthetists, and nursing staff, to improve patient care. I am particularly excited about the opportunity to share my knowledge and experience with the next generation of surgeons. The Department of HHS is aware of reports where, as part of medical students’ training, patients have been subjected to sensitive and intimate examinations – including pelvic, breast, prostate, or rectal examinations – while under anesthesia without proper informed consent being obtained prior to the examination. It is critically important that hospitals set clear guidelines to ensure providers and trainees performing these examinations first obtain and document informed consent from patients before performing sensitive examinations in all circumstances. Informed consent includes the right to refuse consent for sensitive examinations conducted for teaching purposes and the right to refuse to consent to any previously unagreed examinations to treatment while under anesthesia. #teachinghospitals #medicalstudents #academicmedicalcenter https://lnkd.in/g59DpyHg

Embracing the Innovations of Medical Science in Nursing As a nurse, I am continually amazed by the remarkable advancements in medical science that are shaping the future of healthcare. From cutting-edge technologies like telemedicine and robotic surgery to breakthroughs in genetics and personalized medicine, these innovations are not only enhancing our ability to diagnose and treat but are also empowering us to provide more holistic and tailored care to our patients. Each day, I witness how these advancements improve patient outcomes—whether it’s through more effective treatments, quicker recovery times, or enhanced patient engagement. For instance, the integration of artificial intelligence in clinical decision-making has enabled us to provide timely interventions and better manage complex cases. But beyond the technology and science, what truly matters is our ability to connect with our patients on a human level. The combination of medical expertise and compassionate care is what defines nursing. As we embrace these scientific advancements, let’s also continue to prioritize empathy and understanding in our interactions with patients. To my fellow healthcare professionals, let’s remain committed to lifelong learning and be open to the innovations that will continue to transform our field. Innovative teaching methods are shaping the future of medical education! A study conducted by the Faculty of SCHS compared high-fidelity simulation and case-based discussions for teaching bradyarrhythmias to emergency medical services students.  🔍 Key Insights: - Both methods significantly improved knowledge from pretest to posttest. - Simulation-based teaching scored higher in student satisfaction (8.40) compared to case-based discussions (7.87). - No significant difference in knowledge acquisition between the two methods.
