To mark ‘Giving Tuesday’, a global day of generosity, the Fundraising Regulator, Charity Commission for England and Wales and Action Fraud join forces to remind people how to give with confidence. The campaign comes at the start of the festive season, during which people across the UK are more likely to donate to charity than in the rest of the year. A recent study by the Charities Aid Foundation found that 67 per cent of people in the UK had donated money to charitable causes in the past month. Last year, charities’ overall income amounted to £90.5bn, enabling them to deliver crucial services and assistance to individuals and communities, invest in medical research and campaign against inequalities, to name just a few causes. https://lnkd.in/eBdcyxkV

Stop treating your donors like pigs. 🐷 Well, specifically...piggie banks. Your donors are much more valuable and integral to your charity’s mission than simply being a source of dosh. Your donors are your partners, your advocates, your community. They deserve to be informed, thanked, included and celebrated. Successful fundraising is relational, not transactional. 💝 What are some of the best ways you have shown or experienced donor appreciation? #charity #fundraising #supporters

Making Donations to Legitimate Organizations When an emergency strikes, many of us want to help however we can. Our first reaction is to donate to major non-profits or disaster relief organizations, but those aren't always the best use of your money. Often, those organizations take a large portion of a donation to cover operating costs, and the people who need help the most see the least amount of money. I have been working at Marrickville Legal Centre for 9 years and have never witnessed the type of demand for our services that we are experiencing now. Conditions are hard out there and they're becoming increasingly harder for those that are already struggling. We have an amazing group of staff and volunteers who go above and beyond to try to meet this need but sadly, like many community legal centres, we do not have the resources to help everyone. This isn't fair. People should be able to engage effectively with our justice system irrespective of their level of income. This is why we launched the Low Bono Legal Service (LBLS) in 2020. The LBLS service model offers affordable fixed-fee representation for those who cannot afford private lawyers but are ineligible to access free legal support. Since its inception, the LBLS has assisted 364 clients, recovering $3.4 million in entitlements. The fees generated through this service have enabled MLC to employ an additional lawyer, which means we can help more people. We are also working closely with Women's Legal Service QLD, the EDO and Microsoft Gold Partner, Barhead Solutions, to develop a new legal practice management system called Consensus for Purpose. Built on Microsoft’s Dynamics 365, Consensus for Purpose will streamline the entire client journey and reduce the administrative burden through automation and AI. This will free up our limited resources to focus on legal work and speed up the process for those needing help. These projects capture the innovative culture at MLC that is forever exploring new ways to help more people. We will never receive enough funds from government or donations to meet demand, which is why we need to be more creative in how to do more with less. This year we’re asking for donations to help advance these projects. Every dollar donated to MLC goes further, ensuring that more individuals receive the legal support they desperately need. Your tax-deductible donation will not only make a difference in the lives of those MLC serves but also helps drive the innovation needed to bridge the justice gap in Australia. We’ve had a very generous offer to match every donation up to the value of $10,000. All donations received through to 30 June will be matched dollar-for-dollar, so your impact will be doubled! Please consider donating to Marrickville Legal Centre today by heading to mlc.org.au/donate
Donate to MLC before 30 June and double your impact! All donations received throughout this week will be matched up to the value of $10,000, thanks to one generous anonymous donor. Your donation is tax-deductible and every cent will go directly towards providing legal assistance to the community.
