National Bank of Ethiopia Set to Launch Interoperable QR Code Payments by December. In a significant move towards digital financial inclusion, Ethiopia is set to launch its interoperable QR code payment system by December 2024. This initiative aims to enhance the efficiency of cashless transactions and promote the widespread adoption of digital payments among merchants and consumers alike. The new system, developed in alignment with global EMVCo standards, will allow merchants to generate QR codes that can be scanned by consumers using various banking applications. This interoperability means that consumers will be able to make payments seamlessly across different payment platforms, regardless of their financial service providers.
