❗ Why We Need to Talk About Women's Mental Health, Especially During Pregnancy❗ Women’s mental health is a big deal, especially when they're pregnant or just had a baby. During this time, mental health issues can hit hard, and too often, they go unnoticed and untreated. Mamaya Health is stepping up to change this by offering much-needed support to perinatal women. Many women experience mental health problems like depression and anxiety during or after pregnancy. It's a tough time, and these issues can have serious effects if left untreated. Support systems are crucial. Programs like those from Mamaya Health provide emotional and practical help through peer support. This can significantly reduce symptoms of depression and anxiety. Although 1 in 5 adults in the U.S. had a mental illness in 2020, over half of those affected did not receive treatment due to barriers to accessing care. And one significant barrier is the shortage of psychiatrists across the country. This year, Congress expanded Medicare payments to licensed therapists and marriage and family counselors, which signifies a historic win for patients and providers amidst the country's continued mental health crisis. The Association of American Medical Colleges (AAMC) Research and Action Institute’s recent data snapshot echoes the need to leverage the growing share of nondoctoral level providers to address workforce shortages and ensure access to mental health care. While research and policy tend to focus on psychiatrists and psychologists, mental health professionals across all levels are necessary to meet the needs of the more than 57 million people living with mental illness. https://lnkd.in/gUnM6bSj

Attention Mental Health Agencies and businesses: It's time to address a critical issue in our field. Hiring associate therapists without having a clinical supervisor on staff to oversee their hours is not only unethical but also detrimental to the growth and well-being of these dedicated professionals. Associates are already overworked and underpaid, and now, without proper supervision, they can't even account for their hours. This oversight not only hinders their professional development but also compromises the quality of care provided to clients. If you don't have a clinical supervisor on staff, please reconsider hiring associate therapists until you can provide the necessary support. Let's work together to create a more sustainable and supportive environment for all mental health professionals. #MentalHealth #Therapy #ClinicalSupervision #EthicsInTherapy #SupportTherapists
