After a recent poll on my LinkedIn, in which I asked about the most important aspect in scouting youth footballers, it became clear that mentality and character are very important. This confirms an essential truth in youth football: technique and physical ability are crucial, but the player's mentality and character are decisive. Mentality and character include resilience, eagerness to learn, discipline, respect and the mental flexibility to handle both success and setbacks. These traits are critical for players' growth and adaptation to the professional level. In scouting, we pay attention not only to how a player performs, but also to his behaviour and attitude inside and outside the pitch. This gives us insight into his potential to develop into a valuable player in the long term. This just goes to show: in youth football scouting, it is not only what a player can do now that counts, but especially what he can achieve in the future through his character and mentality. #youthfootball #scouting #footballscouting #poll #football
I advise always to go early to the game so you can see the players before the warming up and stay late to see how they doing after the game.

The most important attribute for any young player is not mentioned here! “ a love of the game” without that success is most unlikely.
You can teach someone how to make a pass to feet, but you cannot teach someone to be a decent person to their teammates when things are going wrong.
A reading tip on this subject is the book 'The Gold Mine Effect' by Rasmus Ankersen.

10mo"That's exactly it, mentality and character, but unfortunately, many scouts, when they explain to us that players are too short to integrate a level, always talk to us about technical aspects, aptitude, above all and the players' ability to evolve at the time in a squad. Looks like a few teams work more with players who already have the necessary skills to play at a certain level than to work with players who have a strong mentality and character, as well as great potential.
