The Best Way To Get Started Learning About Leadership I’ve been studying leadership and leading for over 20 years in various environments, from leading a team of developers in a Silicon Valley startup to a regional sales team at Google Latin America. Most of the available resources on leadership focus on the “doing” of a leader. This is fine, but relatively straight forward to learn. What’s quite difficult is mastering the “being” of a leader. So, if you are trying to learn more about leadership, here's the best way to get started: > Read This Book: “The 15 Commitments of Conscious Leadership” by Jim Dethmer, Diana Chapman, and Kaley Warner Klemp. This book provides a refreshing perspective on what it is to be a leader and how to act accordingly. > Watch This YouTube Video: “Top 5 Leadership TED Talks of All Time” by Gro Up Leadership provides excerpts of 5 diverse approaches to what a great leader must be. > Listen To This Podcast: And if you really want to start going down the rabbit hole of the “being” of a leader, listen to “The Transformational Leader” by Adam Quiney. These 3 resources will exponentially accelerate your learning process by exposing you to different perspectives that ultimately present a very coherent point of view. Let me know which one resonates the most for you!

Just finished recording a podcast (as a guest). We were discussing why creativity and play are useful to leaders. The podcast host mentioned that when she worked in corporate, she LIVED for moments when a leader would relax, make a joke and take the edge off. Then they could all relax. They could all collaborate. They could WORK without fear, but instead with confidence. THIS is the reason. When you lead, you don't lead robots. You lead people. People who on some level need resonance, connection and belonging. Especially when times are hard. Leaders don't have to meet all the needs of the folks they lead, but they will either create resonance and inspire productivity, leadership and collaboration - or they won't. This starts on a being level. Creative Leadership coaching is about drawing out the innate authentic creative abilities within a leader - so they can draw them out in their teams. Increase collaboration. Increase fun. Increase productivity. Decrease stress. All boats rise!

"Great leaders are first great managers." – Bill Campbell This quote reminds us of a powerful truth: Leadership doesn’t start with titles or charisma; it begins with mastering the basics. To be a great manager, you need to: ✅ Plan effectively – Set clear, actionable goals and ensure alignment with your team. ✅ Execute consistently – Turn strategies into measurable results. ✅ Coordinate seamlessly – Align people and processes for maximum impact. But there’s more to it. When you excel in these areas, something remarkable happens: 🔑 You earn trust. People feel confident in your abilities. 🔑 You gain respect. Your team sees you as someone who truly understands how to lead. The transition from manager to leader isn’t about a new title, it’s about the behaviors you demonstrate daily. Leadership is the byproduct of trust and respect earned through action. How do you think great managers build trust in their teams? Let us know in the comments! Is leadership innate or learned? While certain personality traits may make it easier to lead, most leadership skills are developed - through years of deliberate practice. Great leadership results in great culture. In professions like medicine, opportunities to practice leadership often arise only when you are chosen to lead. Leadership is not the same as management. Leadership is not a title. Leadership is the ability to inspire others to follow a vision because they want to, not because they have to. In my recent podcast interview with Lee Scheinbart, MD, CPE, FAAPL, I asked how we can develop leaders in healthcare at scale. His answer was simple yet profound: invest in coaching and mentorship. The best way to accelerate leadership development: Learn from an experienced leader — someone who can provide guidance on day-to-day situations. I can attest to this from my own experience. Over the years, I’ve had the privilege of working with incredible coaches and advisors who have challenged my assumptions, helped me develop new skills, extract wisdom from mistakes, and helped me avoid unnecessary trial and error. This interview is packed with leadership insights. Check out the full episode of MedEdge on Apple Podcasts, Spotify, or on YouTube. How does your organization invest in developing new leaders?

Buid leadership competence into a competitive advantage. "Why should I someone spend money to become an exceptional leader?", you ask. You might even add: what then is the place of books, YouTube videos, and listening to podcasts? I have noticed over time that the challenge is not the money to spend or better still, invest. The problem is sometimes the lack of appreciation for strong values and misplacement of priorities. Will you gain leadership knowledge from books? Yes. Will you gain leadership knowledge from YouTube videos? Yes. Will you gain leadership knowledge from podcasts? Yes. But, as far as gaining profound and requisite knowledge, exposure, and experience that makes a competent leader is concerned, forget it. You can't get it without paying, and paying well for that matter. There are levels to leadership. There are levels to knowledge. There levels to the input that makes great leaders. PS: Do you think leadership trainings are worth paying for? PPS: Mention one quality you admire in good leaders? Happy weekend, and you can check the link in my comment section to understand more.

UNLOCKING UNCOMMON GREATNESS: INSIGHTS FROM MARK MILLER’S TRANSFORMATIVE LEADERSHIP PRINCIPLES Mike interviews Mark Miller. In a recent episode of the Million Dollar Stories Podcast, Mark Miller, author of “Uncommon Greatness: Five Fundamentals to Transform Your Leadership,” shared invaluable insights into his transformative book. Here are the highlights from the conversation. SUMMARY Mark Miller recounted the remarkable transformation of a small regional business with just 15 employees into a corporate powerhouse with over 3000 employees and $20 billion in sales. This growth was not accidental but resulted from embracing the five fundamental principles outlined in his book. We discussed the significance of the “little stuff” in leadership. Miller emphasized how small, often unseen actions shape exceptional leaders. Whether taking the time to personally mentor someone or demonstrating genuine care and empathy, these actions build trust and loyalty, leading to long-term success. He shared a pivotal moment from his early career when his supervisor stressed the importance of lifelong learning for achieving influence, opportunity, and impact. This insight led Miller to commit to continuous learning despite not naturally being a “learner.” His dedication to personal growth has been instrumental in his success. @milliondollarbookman @thedreamstarter https://lnkd.in/dbKMkp8T
